Welcome BillG. 43 years from BC for me. My second is to start BC in a couple months. My eldest is an AE3 so to be at NAS Whidbey Island. That is the two of them in my profile picture. Hard core Penguins fans!
Best to your son!!!!!!!!
BillG: Welcome to PA Dads! My son did his "A" School in P'cola and he is there now in his 2nd year with the Blue Angels. My wife and I were there once and really enjoyed the beach area. I was Navy from '71-'75; RM3 stationed at NCS Guam as a CW operator.
Tim/Dale: Enjoy PIR! It's really an enjoyable experience.
I lived in York for 42 years, but in Pensacola now. Really miss the 4 seasons (as long as the snow isn't a White Easter). My son is in BC now as I was 46 years ago...much easier now, they don't have to wash their clothes with a scrub brush. If your kids are headed to the Gulf coast, don't believe the oil spill hype, it's beautiful here.
I will be in GL tomorrow as well. I can't believe I would miss him so much. Every one travel safely.
Alex is a Sailor!
We'll be in GL tomorrow. I can't wait to see him again!
Hello Dale, My daughter will be at Great Lake in a cpouple of months.
Hello. Russell, PA here. My son has PIR on 30 March. He'll be heading to Gulfport after that. We can hardly wait to see him again.
Welcome to PA Dads, Tim! All the best to your son! I was in GL for boot in 1971 and it sure has changed since then. The old barracks were still there in 2006 but the recruits weren't living in them. The old prison is gone and the new barracks are there, from what I can remember.
Randy,
Thanks for the advice. I saw some other folks mention Sarge on the facebook page so I will definately have to check it out. I was in bootcamp, Great Lakes, in 1992 but I bet things have changed so much since then.
Welcome to all the new PA Dads!
Tim some advice about PIR, make the welcome reception the night before with Sarge, he passes out some great advice. We took advantage of his suggestions and had the best Italian meal for a very long time. Pizza at Giodonatos(spell ?) best ever and all my friends were Italian. Enjoy your trip and you'll be truly impressed with how your sailor progressed.
God bless all who serve and their families!
Randy
