I loved Pensacola Beach on the outer island ( Get Gasoline First !) Enjoyed the beach and Fort Pickens . There is many great places to eat.
I also grew-up on the east coast enjoying the Delaware / NJ beaches and Chesapeake Bay . The Florida tourist guide forgot to include about the sharks and gators . Florida has 1200 miles for coastline and 7700+ lakes to swim and fish in . I just don't swim alone ( Can't swim faster than a shark or gator) My son ( Rescue Swimmer) just left Pensacola to San Diego and said that when they swam in the Gulf that there was always a boat with them . I'm not saying this to scare or deter anyone from having a good time and enjoying the surf just be aware .
I'm in a different situation...I was here for "A" school (1966), my son is here in "A" school now and I live here...I'm a very lucky guy. Yes to warm water, much warmer than even Maryland or Delaware. There are sharks here, but rare...don't swim early morning or late afternoon, which is their prime feeding time (and keep your eyes open). We've had some serious jelly fish the last couple of years, but depending on which way the wind blows, it can keep them off the beach (also, not all jelly fish here sting and vinegar stops the stinging). Compared to the North East beaches I grew up on, much nicer...but the Sun is MUCH stronger also.
Wow, I didn't realize how many people encounter sharks down here. I swim in the ocean every summer back home, but I will be extra cautious (if I get a chance to swim). Thanks for the warning!
Sorry I was not trying to be funny .... The waters are warm this time of year in Florida ... http://sharkattacksurvivors.com/shark_attack/viewforum.php?f=48
If this storm doesn't go by soon, the sharks are going to go hungry today. The rain is coming down sideways right now. I hope it clears up later.
@ Phil ,,,, Make sure your in a crowded area and watch for sharks!
I drove my daughters car down to PCola this weekend, now I'm staying at the Navy Lodge. This place is awesome, right on the beach. The weather isn't great but I'm going to go for a swim, the water feels @ 75 degrees. I've never felt water that warm back in Mass! This whole base is impressive.
Not Classed up yet. Preliminary traiming for Aircraft firefighting
Alyssa is settling in to the routine in Pensacola. Class up tomorrow I think?
