Kyle got his verbal orders yesterday. He's going to be land locked for awhile in the North East but at least it looks like he will have a pretty interesting and chanllenging gig. I will be in Biloxi Ms. next week so my Parents are going to pick me up and us drive to Pensacola and take Kyle out for Dinner. Kyle's excited to get to see some family. I agree about not distracting them too much but an evening out is nice and they really enjoy it. Wish I could spend more time with him but work wont allow it.

Kenny, if you get a chance, read my blog on our 're-entry' process. I think you will relate. As for A school...my opinion, for what it's worth, is that the fewer the distractions your son has, the better. Believe me, my wife and I would LOVE to visit and see what's happening down there. But we're a distraction, as much as we hate to admit it. Both of us call and text too often as it is. He's polite, but I can tell, even though he likes hearing from us - the questions we ask (out of curiosity and concern) are sometimes taxing on him. Write letters. They enjoy mail and can read at their leisure.

Thank you Dennis good info to know. He told me his A school training starts Oct 4 and last for 27 days he also said he will phase up to 2 after 2 weeks, guess with a short school he will phase up pretty fast. Is your son thru A school? Wondering if visiting A school is allowed or a good idea. I know I really enjoyed PIR it was one of the most humbling experiences I have ever had, been a few days and still not over it not sure if it was PIR or the change in my son but it sure has made my day to day life not seem as important

Welcome Kenny. My son went through the same thing, but rest assured, he'll still be busy even before he begins A school. They'll have PT twice a day, duty and watch...as well as inspections. True, it's more laid back compared to RTC but he'll still be held accountable and live by pretty stringent rules. As he 'phases up', he will get more and more privileges. But he won't be just hanging out. Our son has his cell phone and was permitted to wear civvies and use his computer when he phased up and ultimately started A school. I suggest you err to the side of caution and not reveal (publicly) where he is. As our admins will tell you, the less specific you are about your son's location and orders, the safer he and his shipmates are. Read what's posted here and in other groups and you'll get a sense of what is ok to post. Welcome!

My son got to Pensacola yesterday and called last night, he said it is so much more laid back than RTC, said they told him they might get him up at 04:30 for more orientation classes but if they didn't for him to be up and ready to go by 06:30. He is pumped wants his cell phone shipped out to him today. Can I comment on here the name of his ship that is in his address? New Navy dad don't want to write anything not allowed.

He may not have started A or C school classes yet, but he isn't just sitting around. He will have to attend classes on everything from money management to sexual harrasment, as well as pulling various duties around the base. Depending exactly where he is NAS or Corry can determine if and when he can come home. When my son was there (Corry) for school they split the groups in half and the holiday periods in half, so everyone that wanted and could afford to leave base could.

my son is at the pensacola a-school, he does not have any classes yet. if he gets no classes for a while, will they give him liberty, maybe for the holidays or does he have to wait
