Officially, he did DOR from RSS and he was told that when you DOR from RSS, you are also dropped from Aircrew as well. So, according to the counselor, he is now an undesignated airman and he is ineligible to strike for a new rate until August 2015, at which time he should reach E-3. It looks like he'll be heading out into the fleet for some new experiences. He hopes he'll know his new destination in the next 2 weeks.
Wish I had some info for you Pat, I have no idea what those acronyms stand for. But I will try to send some positive vibes your way, and I hope everything works out just fine and he ends up getting a chance to do something he will enjoy.
Our sailor was dropped from RSS yesterday for failing swimming qualification. He's very disappointed but he didn't DOR, so will he have a choice of a new rate or will he just be assigned a new one? He's trying to keep positive but concerned he'll be placed in a job he'll hate for the next 51/2 years.
Our new sailor just got down there on Sunday and he was just granted leave for the Holiday Stand Down. He can't wait to surprise his girlfriend, see his dog and sleep in his own bed!
Great duty for a young (low paid) sailor. I went to A School at Corry and so did my son. We Noreasterners can swim almost year round (locals think we're crazy) avg water temp in Jan is 69, same as Ocean City, MD in Aug. Some cold weather, mostly in Jan but lots to do. So nice I moved here...
Hi Jim, based on our GL experience he may ship out the next day (Sat). For us; PIR was a.m. Fri and our sailor had liberty with us until about 7 or 8 that evening. He then boarded a bus for O'Hare @ 3:00 a.m. for a 5:00 p.m. flight to Pensacola. We spent that day with him at the airport where several of the guys were able to share a room at the airport hotel (Hyatt?) for the day at a nominal charge.
Great timing. Pensacola is a great place to visit, especially in the winter for those of us up north. Try to get a room at the Navy Lodge if you get a chance to visit...
My son should be there next Saturday!!!
