No1ref,

We will actually be at the Beach Club in Fort Morgan, although we have spent many vacations at the Eden in Perdido key. So if you hear of anything towards the Beach Club please let me know. The only thing that will keep me away is if I'm hearing people can smell the oil there. Also, if you ever need anyone to check on your condo for you I'll be glad to have the job. lol

Otto, Jim, no1ref we'll have to do a meet & greet in the P'cola area one day. We'll even fly in Paul!

Thanks for the updates. I'll keep checking in as the days get closer.

Jim, when do you want to leave? I love that place. My son tells me he would like to return to P-cola one day, and who knows, the Navy may just let him do that. Would give me more excuses to go there. LOL!

Just a couple of comments regarding the beach. It is really hit and miss as to where the oil is. We have a beach condo on Perdido Key.
It is .8 miles from the Alabama line. I was there 10 days ago and had nothing. We have friends there now and it is getting close. The county has issued a health warning for the water. More and more oil is hitting the beach every day.

Hey guys,

noticed the talk about the oil on the beach. We will be there the 4th of July week, oil or no oil. I need a vacation! Anybody with a Sailor in P'cola please have them update you about how the beaches look over the next couple of weeks & please pass it along. Hope every one's Sailor is doing well. No better place to be in the summer other than the beach. I can't wait!

When my son was at P-cola, he volunteered for as much "outside" duty as he could. He racked up 60+ hrs at the Air Museum and participated on several clean-ups. Tell your sailor to check with his/her command about volunteer work for the oil mess. I am sure there are opportunities, esp. now that the administration has basically dumped this mess in the Navy's lap. It really looks good on their file and it is very gratifying work.

My Son was in Panama City this past weekend and they said the beach was beautiful and the water was very clear. He didnt mention the Prez coming. Then again, he is at Corry Station not Pcola NAS

My son hasn't told me about staying off beach... then again he's from Fl and the beach is no big deal for him.
He had lab test ( got a 97) for LOX yesterday so couldn't see prezbo

According to my son the beach there is clean. All they have to do is walk out the barracks, cross the parking lot and there's the beach. Which barracks is your sailor in? They have Alpha through Hotel

Did anyone else have a sailor graduate this past Friday from GLRTC? Our son said his original orders had him in Pensacola on 20/6, but he called today and said he was already their. Wondering if they will be cleaning up oil before they class up?

My son finally classed up this week, Tuesday actually... and Corry is about 3 miles N of NAS Pensacola. This is where the "Navy mall" is on hwy 98, main entrance is a bit more north on Navy Blvd.
Dale is at NAS Pen, AME class, all of 12 people in it.
