Thanks Brenda, Otto, M, that is very helpful info...

Otto, 86-90 last cruise was home port switch from Alameda to Norfolk, pulled into port, walked off the ship. I am very hopeful that my son is a better sailor than I... :-) I am very proud of him!!

Good job, Marcos. Sure that will answer questions for several on the list, esp John G.

John G.,

I understand the new rates effective in October of 2008 are AWR, AWS, AWO, AWF, and AWV.

The new rating will be labeled “naval aircrewman”

Rescue swimmers will be either AWR or AWS depending on the training pipeline (A School) they enter after completion of Aircrewman and Rescue Swimmer school.

Follow link for more info.

My Son volunteered for rescue swimmer and is currently at NAS Pensacola awaiting class up.

Regards,

Marcos

I think currently that would be AW (Aviation Warfare). Several older classifications have been combined into this rating. When were you on the Big E?

Congrats to your son/family Ken, best wishes to him.

John G~sorry. I can't help, but someone will be able to.

Otto, my son will be attending A school at Pensacola to be a search and rescue swimmer. Will have to check on the rating. Any insight will be helpful. I was a MM (Machinist Mate) on the USS ENTERPRISE CVN65 (ships company).

My son graduated A school on Friday, but isn't scheduled for C school until early September. So his in holding for now, which he isn't thrilled about, but he said it was better than boot camp :). The grad ceremony was excellent. If possible it is worth the trip to see it.

Oh, he started C school on Monday, so there was no "hold". I am so happy about that.
