Good Luck to all present and future A schoolers in P-cola. My son is due in at 9:00 pm tonight in Seattle for his first assignment at Whidbey Island with VQ-1. As with all military careers we all move on. Keep supporting your sailors and let them know that all Navy parents are proud of them whatever their rate and whatever their assignment. Take Care...

Thanks David R & Otto. Brendan is just starting boot camp at Great Lakes, though will be coming to Pensacola for school. Thanks for the information, and we can start looking into visiting him while he is there. Of course that is a while away!! Thanks again!!

Hopefully he has taken her and gotten her her ID card and has all the paperwork filed. If she is not listed in his records, they may end up fronting the money for her travel if he is going somewhere she is permitted.

Joel is headed to Pensacola this weekend. Supposed to class up around the 24th for a two week class. Then off to Japan if his orders don't change. He got married after graduation, so he hopes to take his bride wherever he goes. Anyone have experience with this in their family?

John:
The two non-Navy sights that may be the most helpful are the city's site at http://www.ci.pensacola.fl.us and the visitor's bureau site at www.visitpensacola.com
The base is an open base so it is relatively easy to get on base. Unauthorized areas are well marked should you make a wrong turn. The historic fort, the air museum, lighthouse and national cemetary and beach are all located on the base property. Like David said, it may be helpful to google the address your son gives you once he is there to get a birds-eye view of the area. Is your sailor coming back from the fleet or from boot camp? Reason I ask is, there is an indoc period (longer for boot camp arrivals) that everyone goes thru, and it would be best to visit after that has been completed.
P-cola is a beautiful area and there are attractions within an hour of there (like the USS Alabama in Mobile and beach parks to the east off US 98) that will fill your days with activities. Have fun, but keep a weather eye when planning your trip, it's that time of year.
