Becky,
I'm not 100% sure how to get where you would need to be for the graduation, but getting onto Pensacola NAS is fairly easy. When you take the highway over the bridge you will come to the main gate for Pensacola NAS. I'm sure if you explained that you are there for your daughter's graduation, the MA or person working the gate can explain to you exactly where you need to go.
When I visited my son there last fall, the MA at the gate was very helpful in giving me the directions to proper parking lot and building to check in at.
Congratulations to you and your daughter!
My daughter will be graduation her AM school mid July and my husband and I wanted to surprise her for her graduation (we're from Oregon)...I have another sailor that will sign us up as his guest at the Navy Lodge, but am wondering about getting on base for the actual graduation? Anyone have any ideas on how we could pull this off? Thanks :-)
CassOhioDad - I believe you may be confused. I think Chris was asking about what the sailors do before classing up. :)
My son graduated from A school on March 10th. He is now working down in Norfolk. I think your wait time before classing up has a lot to do with your rate. My son only waited 3 weeks before classing up. He was at Corry Station in Pensacola for about 6 months total. His rate is IT.
My wife and I are looking forward to the return of the Blue Angels to the air show here on Long Island this Memorial Day weekend!
They work. They will do anything that needs to be done, from driving a bus to mopping and waxing floors. They will be kept busy.
My son just arrived at A school for ABE. He said his class wouldn't start for 2 months. What do new sailors do until classes start?
We booked months in advance to get a room for last Thanksgiving at the Navy Lodge. nice room with a great view. My son was on Correy, so he had to commute a few minutes to come see us, but it was well worth it. I flew down 2 weeks ago and stayed at the Gateway Inn and Suites for a night for his graduation from a school. That was nice as well. Just more like an apartment complex. Here's the view from our room at the Navy Lodge.
Call in advance of course due to the lodge and cottages being booked. Im not 100% positive but I believe the young lady was laughing hysterically when I tried on a whim for this last weekend.
Try to stay at the Navy Lodge if you can. Private beach right on the water.
Spring and Fall are the best times here (I live in P'cola). As a Florida resident you understand summer humidity...same here as Sarasota. Just keep a watch on Tropical Storms from June to November. We usually get hit late in the season, but have been lucky the last 9 years. Jimmy Buffett has a hotel on Pensacola Beach, and I prefer it to Perdido, but both are nice. Good Luck to you and your Sailor, either way, better than GLakes in the Winter.
