The airport in Mobile is probably closer to 1 1/2 horus away.

Yea it looks like Mobile is the way to go, cheapest and quickest for me to fly from there to St. Louis, my daughter can drive an hour each way in payment for me delivering her car to her. Thanks for the info.

There is an airport right in P'cola...about 20 min (if my son drives) away from he base.

I will be dilvering my daughters car at some time in the next 4 to 8 weeks to her in P Cola, I will then need to fly back to St. Louis, MO, my first choice would be southwest but was wondering what is the closest major airport to P Cola.

She was DIV 245 but they call Liberty for all of them together. Grad&Go depends more on follow on training I think. Holly's changed from 2 hours to 1 hour to 5 minutes a few days we left. Whether you drive or fly it could change at any given time so I guess just try to roll with the punches. Some people's kids have been changed to G&G the day of PIR. If you fly, buy the insurance in case you need to make the changes. At $18 per ticket it's a great deal. We've spent the weekend sightseeing in the city and trading about a million txts with Holly. Is it as good as spending time wit her? Of course not, but what choice do I have? She's off her rocker excited about her new career and that's about the best a parent can hope for. I spent 18 years preparing her for this moment, how can I not be happy for her? Anyway, no matter what it'll all work out and you'll be glad you came to show your support for him.

Kirk...was Holly in one of the first two graduating Divisions? Just as in your situation..with all the delay and vacation issues, changing flights and hotel, we are trying our best to avoid these complications. My wife is already so stressed about plans that we (she) has decided we will make the 15 hour drive instead of flying to save money as well as in the event things change. She says all of this remind her of being a Navy wife and all of its uncertanties.

Needs of the Navy. After all these years, i still don't understand why things work the way they do. However, I believe a great deal of the "hurry up and wait" has come about as a result of having only one RTC. Plans are made weeks in advance for space at GL.

Hey Chris, who the heck knows what they do or why they do it, they shipped Holly out within minutes of PIR on a chartered flight so she could have the weekend off in Fl. Of course, if I were 18 and was given the choice, I'd rather have the weekend off in Florida too. Hehehehe!

Does anyone know if they run consecutive (staggered) classes? When I was at NTC SD for IC A School, there was only one school at a time. Granted...this was twenty years ago. In reviewing alot of these comments, I see many of our kids are waiting quite some time to "school up". The reason I'm asking....my wife chats with another Mom on N4M whose sailor is a Grad-n-Go for AM School in P-cola. Our son is also to be an AM but has been told he will have full weekend liberty. The problem is although they are in different Divisions...they PIR on the same date. I guess I just don't understand the concept of G-n-G cutting the Family's Liberty when they just get there to sit and wait for a class.

Airfare is pretty cheap right now and a quick weekend trip would certainly be worth it if you can swing it. Don't know where you are, but Air Tran flies connecting flights out of Atlanta to P-cola
