My son is down there now. I brought his car down on his insurance (USAA) and had to process some documents up here at DMV, needed a power of attorney to do that but it wasn't a big deal.. He did take a Motorcycle class down there, and as a result had his Driver's License changed to FL. Its all a matter of how you want to handle it. I believe he was there a month before he classed up, and was able to have his car.

I'm not sure. In our case, she paid the whole year of insurance ahead of time before she went to Great Lakes. We asked our ins agent if she should register it in Florida but he said it sounds like a temporary address so we should just keep it registered in Mass which we did. Maybe he just didn't want to lose a customer, I don't know. I drove her car from Mass, took the route that goes through Richmond Va and Chattanooga Tenn and it was a nice ride for sure. I think it worked out way better than if I took 95 to Carolinas and then cut over. Unfortunately she only got to use the car for a couple of weeks before something went bad in the fuel injectors or pump. Took it to a local repair shop and $700 later, they couldn't fix it. After replacing the fuel pump and other things. After the car was sitting in the lot for months she sold it for short money just to get rid of the headaches.

Great, thanks Phil. Not sure how long he'll be there, but I heard could be 6 months. I guess when he lets us know, my wife and I can drive it down for him and then fly back up to NY.

Right now his car is off the road. I wonder if he can register it there, then mail us the plates? Or would I have to do everything here in NY and then switch it over when we get down there?

Yes, I drove my daughters car down to Pensacola last fall. She went to A & C school down there. You may have to wait at least a couple of weeks after he arrives, I'm sure he will let you know when he can use the car. At both bases there are large parking lots for them, with plenty of space.

I have a question. My son will be attending A school down in Pensacola for IT. Will he be able to have his vehicle there?

Thanks!

We stayed at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites also at NAS Pensacola, when we the Navy Lodge was full. It's pretty close to Corry and I don't think you will get a better rate. Not as nice of a location as the Navy Lodge but it's worth a look.

Any suggestions on a hotel near Corry Station in Pensacola? Going to visit our sailor in a couple of weeks. The Navy Lodge is nearer NAS and was booked anyway.

Well I have not commented in while and just wanted to say we are on to the next chapter of our sons adventure, or maybe his mom and my adventure. He graduated A school July 3rd and went to Maine for SERE training, that worried us to death, you get the text that he is being dropped off in an hour and you will not hear from him for days. Once we did finally hear from him there was a ton of bricks lifted off our shoulders, but its all good now. He's in Jacksoville training for FE, just wanted to say we are so proud of him. Keep up the good work Kolton.

My daughter (CTT) finished up her Pensacola chapter today and is moving on now, eventually to the USS America LH6. She has been there a year, I got to visit her a couple of times and we had a great time in the Pensacola area. I really like the area maybe I'll be back again some time in the future for a visit, hopefully it will be in the heart of the winter.

My son is A-PACT (undesignated) but is going to strike for AD.  He is also going to the USS GW in a couple of months.
