It sounds as though your son started class pretty quickly. My ABH son arrived NATTC 2 full months before starting his class. Once started, his class was 5 weeks long. He did a LOT of sitting and waiting. This generation of young men get a lot of video game practice while there.

My son graduated A-school, then was given a ship date to the GW in Yokosuka, Japan that was 5-weeks after graduating. He has been in 'Indoc' in Japan for a month now and has been doing more sitting and waiting. There are days that they report to their class there at 0600 then are released at 0930 for the day. So, he has gotten plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding area and Tokyo.

My son has been at "A" school for almost 2 weeks.  He started classes this past Monday and he will already be leaving there the beginning of July.  Is this normal?  Doesn't seem like much time to get anything done and it seems like he sits around alot of the time just waiting.

Just had one arrive from Boot this weekend. Will be attending AT A school when one opens up. Looks like he will be doing what we used to call Barracks support for a while...."character builder"....hah. I spent lots of time on that buffer myself!

Having been thru Pensacola "A" school many years ago, you got to remember the, The Worst Duty Station is the one you're at and the Best Duty Station is the one you left. People actually save up all year to take their vacation here, and CassOhioDad is right, not nearly as miserable because of the Gulf winds. I moved to Pensacola from DC and it was hotter than here. They need to relax and enjoy the break before the hard work begins, because once it starts it won't end. Also my son just finished "A" in Feb and is missing Pensacola already.

Ronald, my son arrived at NATTC on Feb 9. He waited 7 weeks without a word or hint as to when they might start. Then, on Sunday March 31, they posted a roster at 1730 hrs with his name on it saying that he was to report to class at 0530 the next morning. He was on liberty with me for the weekend and wasn't required to be back until midnight that night. It was a good thing that he checked for a roster after so many weeks of seeing nothing.

Tell your son to be patient. He may wait 2 months and then get less than 12 hours notice.

He's in the Navy now. There never seems to be a rhyme or reason to what they do. When they are ready for him to class up he will. In the mean time he should make the best of it and enjoy the weather.

My son Arrived to Pensacola on Saturday April 20th and has yet to start AE classes. He isn't sure of holds but I told him to be prepared.

Hi Mindshaper, my son has been in now since mid January, we shipped him some civies after the first three weeks or so. I drove his car and some additional items to him after he broke past the first month. You need to look at his schedule with regard to when he is allowed specific liberties. He will be getting into warmer weather, and Pensacola beach is nearby. All things to consider as his liberties improve with the time he is there.

My son will be attending A school in Pensacola following his basic, which starts on April 2. As he is packing up his room, I told him to set aside stuff for me to send to A school. Any suggestions? What does/will he need and not need?

CassOhioDad, I am a novice here but I did check on something. The AT rating currently has a CREO of 3 across all rates so it is overmanned. That could be contributing to the delay.
