Navy Dads

Hi we just found out that our son will be staying on in GL, for four more weeks of training after graduation. Does anyone have any ideas as to how long we will get to spend time with him, on that day?  My wife read somewhere that he will have to go and move into other living quarters directly afterwards, and that the process can tie them up for almost 6hrs.  ???????????  Help anyone ??

My daughter also did A school at GL. She had maybe ten to twenty minutes free after PIR and then had to report to the base. That did take around 5 hours to get done but then they have liberty for the weekend. There is a curfew when they have to be back on base but he'll know when that is. Enjoy and congratulations.

as John said, 4-6 hours is the norm for processing......but you'll only have about 15-30 minutes right after PIR.

They are correct just got back from there they are allowed 15 minutes after graduation then it takes about 4 hours until you can pick them up at the main gate visitors ctr.Our Son was allowed to have his cell phone immediately after graduation and will call you when they can be picked up,  You'll need id for everyone in vehicle plus your SR's red pass to get him into base. Curfew is 10 PM don't be late enjoy your time with him and be sure to check out the visitors center excellent Naval history and  base info.

Thank you to all, for the info, I appreciate it. And thank you for YOUR own sailors !

If you have a car there, have your sailor get you a pass for the entire time you'll be there to come on base. You'll still have to wait for him to take you on base, but it will save you from having to wait your turn to get a daily pass.

Your sailor will have to walk up each day to the main gate to get you. You'll then have to drive back in order to sign him out from his ship. Expect to spend a lot of time waiting and a lot of protocol.

He should have liberty from around 8 AM to 9 PM. However, allow plenty of time for traffic and whatnot.

My son will graduate on May 4th, and he'll stay in Great Lakes, does that means he will have ALL SATURDAY FREE?

Jim, thank you very much, the more I read and know, the more questions I have. 1 more question, my BD is this week, will he be able to request or more important,

will he be granted permission to call me on my BD?? or is this a crazy request?? Also his BD is Sat the 14th, is there any way I could get in touch with him??
