Tips for new PIR rules as of Oct 6, 2017

You will notice on this site that there are still a few pointers to the old rules.  As of Oct 6, 2017 you do NOT need to download a parking pass from the RTC website any longer. 

Your ticket to the event that you hopefully obtained the day before graduation at the Recruit Family Welcome Center will get you through the gate the day of graduation.  If you were unable to obtain your ticket the day before, the Welcome center is open at 0530 the day of graduation.

On the PIR date, you can enter through either the Illinois street gate (Gate 6) or the Ohio street gate (Gate 8) if you wish to enter the base to park.  Alternatively, you can park at the train station which is adjacent to the Ohio street gate for $1.50 and walk through the gate.  We parked in the train station lot and found it easy to enter, but somewhat difficult to leave due to the large numbers of cabs and shuttles present.

When returning from Liberty, you can return your sailor through the Illinois street gate IF all members travelling in the vehicle have PIR tickets and proper identification with them!

Post graduation, meeting at the airport.  You must press your sailor for information regarding which airport they are departing from!  Most go out of O'Hare, but they can leave from Midway as well. 

At O'Hare, you have two main places to meet you sailor - you can get a pass from the airlines to go through security, or you can meet your sailor at the USO.  The USO is upstairs on the mezzanine above the ticketing level of Terminal 2, and is located outside of security.  Usually the sailors go to the airport well before (12 hours or more) their flight.
