Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

if you guys cannot play nicely I'll shut this group down....I have come very close in the past several times to doing so and won't hesitate.....each post escalates in intensity and pretty soon people are pissed at others and the serious name calling starts

Jack Flash-The condescension in your tone is blatantly obvious to everyone but you. You seem to think I'm too stupid to understand your point so you reduce it to kids and popsicles. You intimate that I'm not smart enough to participate in a political forum. And let's not overlook the fact that you start your reply with "Chuckle". And you seem to think that your not looking down on people or that I'm overly sensitive. Trust me, my wife would laugh at anyone who accused me of being too sensitive or politically correct. As to your questions, only people on the extreme left want those things, but you know that already. It's the typical scare tactics that both sides employ daily. "Vote for us because the other guys only like big business and hate women"-"Vote for us because the other guys are going to tax you to death". And on and on. Well sorry but I don't scare easily. I'll try rewording my point another way. Both sides have been so consumed with the extreme ends of their agendas that they seem to forget that most people are relatively moderate in their beliefs. Whether they deem themselves liberals or conservatives. It's that unwillingness to look to the middle that I find so frustrating. Sometimes it's just about perspective, my in-laws are so leftist they received invites to JFK's Inaugural ball back in the day, to them I'm a jack booted righty storm trooper. My mom is so right wing that it would scare Hannity and Limbaugh, she thinks I'm a flaming liberal. Neither can see any point other their own and both party's suffer for it.

Hi Robert--

Welcome to the thread!  No fear!  I like that.  I've been an IBEW member as well as IAFF for many years.  Not a big fan of either when it comes to politics.  Congratulations to you on your son's decision to serve.  You will be a proud Papa come PIR, -- a day we all look forward to, or fondly remember.

I hope you feel welcome and free to share.

chuckle...

Okay, you'll have to point out where I begrudged anyone's opinion.  Feel free to make use of the quote function.  What you dodged was "every" question I asked.  They were not rhetorical questions at all, rather they are pointed.  And I didn't assign any positions to any candidate.  Each question asks you to simply chose a direction you wish to go in.  The fact that you associate certain positions with certain candidates affirms the fact that the choice is clear--

Funny that you sense a "condescending tone" in my post.  I apologize for that.  Maybe you are just sensitive?  If so, a political discussion probably isn't the place for you, particularly in an election season.

If asking you to clarify your position on some very basic issues confronting our nation is deemed offensive to you, then you are likely to be offended by just about anything I can offer.

Be well.

Jack Flash- Sorry I missed you earlier, 1st- I dodged nothing, I thought I had made my opinion of the current administration quite clear. You put out what were essentially one sided rhetorical questions. Also, your point again comes from the negative. The other guy is going to do all of this evil stuff. You don't offer persuasive argument as to what your man is going to do that's any different. Right back to "Vote for us because at least we're not him". The very fact that you limit yourself to either Choice A or Choice B is the exact problem with both parties, limited thinking from mediocre politicians. My point has always been that as long as we accept, in fact strive for, mediocrity from our leaders, that's exactly what we'll get. Your condescending tone just goes to further my point. The GOP, a party that I once loved & stood by, has reduced itself to a bunch of "My way or the highway", limited thinkers. You dismiss those who disagree with you as if they were children because God forbid anyone have an opinion that differs from yours. That's always persuasive. Why is it that I don't begrudge you your opinion yet you certainly can't say the same?
