Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

@pat -- lol, ya got me there! If you can't beat 'em, join em.

More seriously, it's the outright lies (Obama's not an American citizen, Max Cleland is an Osama/Saddam loving traitor) that bug me most. I'm sure you can add some from the other side, too.

And as to Hoekstra, isn't he the one who tweeted from the Green Zone that he and a codel were in the green zone? That's the basis for my distaste. Otherwise grandstanding is par for the course -- see Schumer, Chuck for a corresponding example on the D side.

Hey Pat,

My concern(outrage, contempt, loathing, and fear) of the actions of the executive (branch) should not me minimized. Isn't this all part of the power grab going on in DC??? It's not like *any* of them are "governing" anymore... We can sweep the Government -- actually the politicos that are pretending to govern -- in just a few short years. It may soon be too late to act!

I want to shout from the rooftops that we are in ***CRISIS*** but no one seems to be listening. I realize that posting here is preaching to the choir. Everyone on this board has someone near & dear that has demonstrated commitment to the higher ideal.

It's not about vengeance, it is about justice. The crimes he committed were so much more than his rubber band being wound too tight and snapping. I don't have the details and the tactical analysis of the events of that day. A psychotic break occurs suddenly and without planning, his actions seemed to contain some forethought.

Did I mention the boy is coming home Friday :^)

He's already been charged...he's still in the hospital. Unless you want the Chinese solution of just shooting him in the back of the head with no due process, you will just have to wait until Hasan has recovered enough to stand trial.

You will be happy to know that bail will not be an option. I'm sure he's seen his last days of freedom already.

As to Hoekstra -- I agree that Obama is wrong to withhold info. The fact that Hoekstra is a useless piece of grandstanding garbage is no excuse, the law is the law. "Bush did it first" is also not a valid excuse, even if it is a true fact.

Pat,

It's been a month and a few days since the shooting. It's possible that the families are just beginning to return to some level of normalcy -- not that it can ever be remedied. I can't imagine what the families are going through. I sure there is a need to know, and a desire to put it in the past.

As a civilian, I want to hear a report that the shooter was tried under the UCMJ, found guilty, and shot or hanged. What I don't want to hear is that the shooter is waiting for a lengthy appeal process and the media is turning the think into a show trial. 13 dead and 32 attempted murder charges -- case closed. His name should never be spoken again except as a warning.

Since there is a nagging disbelief that Presbo would affirm the death sentence, perhaps the military is dragging their feet so that the trial and appeals conclude sometime after Jan 2013 -- I would applaud that reasoning.

Some thoughts on the ongoing discussion, as far as how we should treat the POTUS. I'm a firm believer that the man defines the office, not the other way around. We are citizens, not subjects. Only Royalty demands respect based on their place, or station in life. If President Obama were to walk into my house right now I would treat him with the same courtesy I would treat any of you. I would also not hesitate to tell him exactly why I think he is the worst President in US history. I would give him the opportunity to change my mind/earn my respect. After that I would politely ask him to leave. After seeing photos of protestors in DC carrying signs referring to GW Bush as a "F***Tard" I have no problem using a mildly derogatory term that describes the POTUS as "Self-important and having delusions grandeur". Democrats screamed, chided, derided, and ridiculed the Republicans for 8 years. Now they have the opportunity to prove they were right but they will also have to endure the same scrutiny that the conservatives were subjected to.

That's pretty true Pat, as a friend of mine likes to say, "If they're a politician, and they're talking, then they're lying".

@Rex -- no one accused anyone of a personal attack. I was trying to highlight Geo. HW Bush's call to civility, and apparently I bollixed it by attempting a play on words with "dittohead". Certainly conservatives can think, although I have a ton more respect for Scarborough's opinions than for Rush. I just find them more thoughtful, even when I disagree. And while "progressives" have indeed been uncivil at times, I specifically pointed out that I tried NOT to go there with George W. Bush.

@ctyankee -- you resolve the conundrum by doing what our relatives in the service already know how to do -- salute the uniform, not the man. It would be unlikely that I would ever have met a member of the previous administration, but if I were tasked to demo some of my NASA software to them on a tour I certainly could have done that civilly. Although in Vice President Cheney's case I probably would have required a long shower with strong soap afterwards.

@paul -- I agree fully on our right to free speech. Although the previous administration asserted the right to hold people without habeas corpus -- yes the stated purpose was against non-citizen terrorists, but if they can put you in jail without recourse to a lawyer or the ICRC, how can a imprisoned citizen ever attain the rights they have and non-citizens don't? I don't think President Bush would have condoned disappearing people Argentine style, but is that a power one wants to cede to the Government too easily? One of the left's biggest disappointments is that Obama has continued to assert the kinglike executive policies that Bush did.

@all -- I hope a little poking and prodding isn't taken the wrong way. This is how we learn from each other, and I am genuine about wanting to understand other perspectives than my own. BTW, I never did get a good answer as to why Sarah Palin would make a good president, although I did get good answer to why she is a person one should hold in esteem.

Oligarchy here is a definition.

A goverment in which a small group exercises control.
Especially for corrupt and selfish purposes.

Could sound like any administration past or present.
Also one might think that this would apply to the congress or any state or local government.
