Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Hi John,
I absolutely appreciate and respect your opinion on this matter. It is just my own personal feeling that who ever the person was (man or woman) who held the position of President of the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001 - I believe we still would have been attacked.
Thank you for your response to my comment.

On Election Day I did not vote for Barack Obama. However, because he was chosen by a majority of the american citizens to be our President, I will put my full support behind him and his administration. I am very interested to see what plans President Obama has for our military men and women regarding the defense budget, pending wars, and base closures. This week the Navy Times touched on these issues. I would encourage any of you who subscribe to this publication to read about it.
Thank you former President George Bush for keeping our country safe from those who wish to do us harm.

The media would have us all feel that McCain is the underdog, and that he is too old, that Palin in unqualified, that the majority want change, etc when actually the truth is that this is a very close race, Senator McCain is healthy, McCain and Palin are both individually and corporately more experienced and better prepared for governing than Obama and Biden, and the majority of Americans are unaware of the agenda that Obama presents.

The desperation is evidenced by the flaming liberals who have registered to vote 75 times (but they wanted to help Obama, can it be wrong??), the ACORN voter fraud. Reminds me of the dems who ate chad from the Bush/Gore election fiasco in 2000. Anything is okay as long as the liberal wins (after all, who said there are standards to live by and rules to follow?)

We who oppose Obama do need to be careful to represent the facts, and be gracious in our opposition, even when the other camp has been so bitter and vitriolic against Governor Palin and her family (ie what a bad example as a mother having a daughter pregnant out of wedlock...had it happened to them, most of them would have probably demanded their daughter have an abortion instead of the negative publicity of carrying the innocent child and choosing life). They are the hypocrites.

Recently I heard that deployed military may not have their absentee ballots back in time, and I wonder if this is another voter fraud scam by the dems to subvert the votes of many pro-McCain Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guards. Why doesn't their vote count? Probably because many are from tight-race states like VA, and the dems want to turn that state from red to blue...anyway they can.

No, the democrats are much more desperate, and despicable in their actions, than the McCain supporters. May we all have eyes to see, ears to hear, wisdom to discern, and the will to act responsibly in the coming hours. Blessings, Kevin

I fully agree with Kenorain! I do feel McCain is the underdog in this election and see his followers acting in such desperation to turn votes around. I believe a more understanding, respectful way of getting the issues out there could be done instead of the name calling. As Kenorain I wish to sign off this group also - still an Independent and still undecided, Michele :)

Ken, that is the beauty of our God-given and Constitutional rights, that of freedom in our thoughts, in our words, and in our actions which do not harm or threaten others. I do not feel animosity toward you or others who disagree, nor do I think that all who seek for a measure of change in this election are stupid or ignorant. I used the term "deceitful eloquence" describing NOBAMA based upon my somewhat limited following of the issues and debates, and the very strong sense that the senator from IL is not speaking truth about his plans and that he does not have our country's best interests in view. I am personally opposed to his past track record and what I percieve to be his future plans. I do agree that it's easy to get excited in the debate, and such strong words expressed by our friend Luis may be uncalled for, but he's overall good-natured and he makes me laugh. Sorry if we ruffled your feathers, but I do appreciate your experience and thoughful comments. Take care and vote wisely, Kevin

Kevin and Luis - the great thing about democracy is that different people see things differently, and have an opportunity to vote for who they wish.

For a long time, I couldn't understand who people I respected, admired, and who are smart people could disagree with me. I've come to understand that because I see things so clearly doesn't mean that others must agree with me. And, I've come to learn that I may have been wrong and they were right.

So, comments like "deceitful eloquence", "blind worship", and the "Devil in disguise" reflect a personal and subjective perspective. It's pretty much saying that folks who don't agree with you (like me, for instance) are stupid, demon possessed, ignorant - or something along those lines.

I've also learned after many, many years of participating on forums, that it's almost impossible to change a person's mind through snippits of comments on a board. Issues can be discussed, one's fundamental world view can't be.

So, I'm signing off this discussion, but wish you and your sailors all the best. Peace........ Ken

Kevin thank you for your eloquence in explaining what I feel. Sometimes my Cuban blood flares up and I don't come across as you just have. We are all American no matter if Republican, Democrat or Independent. We all have the right to choose for who we like, what I don't understand is the blind worship of Obama. I don't understand why good Americans can not see the Devil in disguise.

Like you said God help us ALL. Luis

What I don't understand is how otherwise-patriotic Americans can stomach the deceitful eloquence and obviously questionable history and stated policies of NOBAMA. I agree that the last 4 years of Bush/Dems has been a downhill slide, I think mostly due to the Dems, but I fully support the President's GWOT and feel it is a painful and expensive necessity to safeguard freedom here and abroad. While Senator McCain may be a bit old and rough around the edges, he has courage, tenacity, and a more moderate mindset (than GW) that should appeal to the liberals and enable a more conservative progress with Congress (than NOBAMA). As for Governor Palin, she has more integrity, higher morals, and greater leadership experience than NOBAMA. I fear the loss of our collective Constitutional rights (not just those of suspected terrorists) if NOBAMA gains the office. May the Lord have mercy on us and grant widespread repentance across our great land. Blessings to you all, Kevin
