Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Dear friends I AM NOT STATING THAT ANYBODY IS A SOCIALIST!

As a Free thinking American I feel and think that Obama's policies are Socialistic, I did not refer this to anybody on this site. People say that President Bush is a warmonger and I say that Obama is a Socialist. There is no reason to get upset about someone stating a comment.

Again, I want to claim that I am not politically knowledgeable all I know is what I see and feel happening in my home, city, state, relatives lives, etc...I appreciate the definition submitted Luis. If I look at the different definitions I think we are already surrounded by socialism. When I purchased my very first property at the age of 23 I wasn't aware of the unspoken law that if the county, state, or federal government needs my property they can take it for whatever price they see fit fair. If I am driving down the road and any law enforcement officer decides they need my car I have to hand it over to them and I am left to figure out how to get it back (hopefully undamaged). The part of the definition that says means of production are owned and controlled by the state. . .shoot I see more and more of this happening, our government is controlling us like puppets, but yet the majority of us find it easier to keep giving up our rights then try to fight the government - we all know the feds always win. How is any of this and much more I haven't mentioned not socialism??

This is what Socialism means to me. This is what Obama is going to bring to the White House.

Main Entry: so·cial·ism
Function: noun
Date: 1837

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

Now that I've established myself as as a non-judgmental person, I can share some of my thoughts!

First, what's socialism to you? We pay at least a third of our gross income to support the public good - everything from roads to utilities to armies, etc. We haven't recently had government ownership of private companies, though we did in the past, i.e. during WWII. Like then, the current equity investment in the financial industry will be finite in duration.

So, I don't think we really have any risk of true socialism. We do stand to have more government involvement in certain areas. Is this good or bad? For the majority of my life I've thought it was bad - and I've voted Republican six out of the eight times I've voted. Purely on economic issues I have come to the belief that uncontrolled free markets will ultimately create a smaller and smaller - but richer and richer upper class. While capitalism may be the most efficient economic system - it doesn't make provision for greed and unjust personal gain. And, I have an MBA and work on Wall Street.....

In terms of foreign policy, the days of being able to control other countries by carrying a big stick are quite clearly over. The mightiest armed forces in the world, and we haven't won a war in decades. Look at Korea, Vietnam, the middle east.... Some have derided Obama for saying he would talk to anyone without pre-condition. I really believe in that. I mean, WWJD...? Can you imagine Him trying to influence people with power before conversation?

I am not a total pacifist. I believe that we need to have a strong defense, and am not ignorant to the fact that many would like to destroy a democratic way of life. But, the bellicose approach of the past eight years, while establishing a tenuous level of control in Iraq has created many more enemies who will one day seek to take up arms against us - and that has not been necessary.

Michele, love the "solution", but hope that ACORN doesn't help them register...

I agree with Kenorian and with EG. There is truth in the Democratic as well as in the Republican Party, neither holds the exact truth since "The Truth" belongs to only one man who said "I Am the Way, The Truth and the Life."

Unfortunatly I also believe that Barry Obama is a Socialist even though he might be a decent man and Socialism is going to be bad for America. I trust in God and in the wisdom of our nation that we can survive an Obama administration but I feel that the damage will take years to clean up. For starters he will fill the courts with Liberal judges he will govern based on their political ideology.

Socialism was put to work in Cuba and look what has happened. Now Socialism has destroyed Venezuela and it has made Canada and Europe the week entities that they are today. I pray to God that Obama has a long and healthy life but I hope that it doesn't start in the White House.

As Joe Biden said "Mark my words" we will re-live the Jimma Carter days when and if Obama gets in. I was never a John McCain man, I personally voted for Mitt but John McCain has been tested and he will protect our nation from the evils that confront her.
