1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate
John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.
That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.
Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.
Sincerely, Navydads Creator

@glenn & elbert --
I dunno, killing the right enemy is a little more important than lapses of ettiquette. It's not exactly like the President spit in the face of a Medal of Honor awardee, is it?
Let's review the record
Osama -- dead
Pirate kidnappers -- dead
Libya -- France and Britain do the heavy lifting after SSGN hits Qaddafi with a whole bunch of cruise missiles and we fly a few dozen sorties. Total cost of a couple of billion, where Iraq cost nearly a trillion and counting.
Iraq -- he had the good sense to continue the Bush-Petraeus plan that is working. Whatever happens after this year ends is on the Iraqi's decisions, which is as it should be. He's a politician who won't admit the surge worked, but he's also a pragmatist who saw the surge worked.
Afghanistan -- this is the one place where I don't think things are working, but if anyone has a winning strategy I'd be happy to here it. It's a country we have the power to vaporize but not to conquer.
He's far from a perfect president, but we forget how incompetent his predecessor was at our peril. And given the poor economic performance of 2001-09 and the return of a GOP congress to obstruct Obama in 2011, speaking Spanish will be the least of your problems. Elect Rick Perry or Herman Cain and it will be "push 1 for Mandarin".
Glenn, things may get better when we get a new Commander In Chief! I tire of being asked to push 1 for English or 2 for Spanish and then when you push 1 for English you get someone that doesn't ?
@ Wayne, I regard your response as inappropriate. It's your right to make such an asinine statement because of people like my late friend Bill.
When we have a Commander in Chief that knows that when you put a Medal of Honor ribbon around a service members neck, you stand back and salute (even if a D.I. never taught you to salute properly), you don't shake hands like you are meeting in front of the local liquor store, and slap him on the sholder.......... give me a break! Then will things be better in this country!
@Wayne, I don't find it at all unreasonable for Robert to have identified the *killer* as belonging to a class. Further I would assert that had death of his friend been attributable to any of the other classes you mentioned, the loss would be no less.
It is supposed to be a function of government to protect us from foreseeable risk... illegal aliens fit the definition, as do habitual DUI's. Teens already pay higher premiums for insurance, and yes *some* seniors are accidents waiting to happens. As for the WASP class you mentiones, absent the booze, the incidence of fatality as described is *VANISHINGLY SMALL*.
So while I emphatically agree with the statement that all men are created equal, I further assert that few men remain equal! And I assert that discriminating based on demonstrated behavior isn't the social evil that so many try to make it seem to be.
My sympathies to Robert for rehashing the event, and I'd agree with Paula, the the PC thing is really tired, so tired, that I'm forced to respond to PC utterances using anti-PC rhetoric.
To Robert Hartman,
My condolences on the untimely loss of your friend. I find it curious that you made sure to point out that it was an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT who caused the accident, then blamed the "no security on our borders."
Would your friend's death be any easier to take had the accident been caused by a legal immigrant? or a Senior Citizen? Or an American teenager? Or a conservative, Christian, right-wing Republican, straight white American male who had too much to drink? Who can you blame then?
Has anyone heard about the super committee wanting to cut two carrier groups?
I haven't been here for a while, so I wanted to offer my condolences To Robert on the lost of his friend.
As for that government assistance "expansion" article, it hurts my brain.
A very dear friend of mine was killed yesterday by an illegal alien who was driving with no license or insurance. Completely ignorant of the law, he crossed through a funeral procession and killed my friend who was riding escort. One more husband, father , friend to many and a Navy vet gone because of no security on our borders.
