1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate
John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.
That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.
Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.
Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Thanks Charles, but actually, I'm asking you to trust me with your vote. ;^)
Although that's all any new politico can do. Only after serving well can I claim to have earned it. That's going to be one of my messages; a la campaign rhetoric...
"You've trusted the politicos in Washington with your vote. Now ask yourself these questions: Have they earned your trust? Did they use your trust well? Are you going to continue to allow them to abuse that trust?"
Or something like that... I want to be clear to folks that they are taking a chance on me, and that I will do my best to earn the trust they would extend to me. To be blunt that is something that the Parties cannot address. The track record of politicos is that selling out is du rigeuer behavior in DC, and that co-opting the freshmen to the needs of the leadership is a priori action & expectation. I'm stating that I know of those attacks and that my resistance to gross and vulgar assimilation is how I expect to be judged.
So in the mean time I'll just say: "Thank you for your support." (Wasn't that the Bartles & James slogan?) Hmmm???
You've earned my vote.
Actually, I'm planning on embarrassing my opponents so much that they will have to concur with my position on the 50% deadwood, lest they infuriate their contributing base... (who happen to be the wealthy) Whoops! Did I let that dirty little secret out??? ;^)
@Charles, Fingerpointing at me??? I'm counting on it!!! I'm no politico, I'm an engineer, an engineer that has reached the limit of his ability to accept the status quo in DC -- I don't want to become a politico -- I see running for office and serving as a civic duty -- not a career goal. I'll go to DC and serve, then I'll CHEERFULLY return to my lab and bench and shop -- the way the FOUNDERS intended.
Libertarian: Less Government. More Freedom.
ctyankee,
So what you say is that there is another side to "shared sacrafice" that this WH does not like to address? Hmmm....makes sense to me.
Be careful in the Senate.....it looks like some Republicans in the House tried to stand up, be the adult in the room, make those tuff decisions, and address the out of control debt. What did they get but fingers pointed at them for a drop in the market that had more to do with bad economic data and expanding issues in Europe rather than a downgrade in credit rating that the Market had mostly priced in already. Changing Washington will be a challenge!
@I Yam asked: "What politician is going to promise you that -- and if he/she did, would they even get elected."
Hmmm. All I can say is that when I make it to the Senate I'll work *very* hard to fix the flaws that are responsible for the current troubles. We're stuck in a very deep rut, and getting out will take *enormous* effort -- just like everything else that is worthwhile. The biggest challenge is to get *everyone* involved in the effort!
50% of the people are not pulling their weight -- heck, they are deadweight. At best, we should try to get them to participate again; if nothing else, we must demonstrate that they will no longer be tolerated as freeloading burdens.
I'm not saying we would cut-off those that we owe a true social debt to, but we must no longer punish those that contribute for the benefit of those that claim their *entitlement* is sufficient.
Just like the Westward settlers of previous centuries, sometimes you have to abandon the broken wagon to complete the journey. We'll take what we can, and shed the useless burden to reach our goal.
that is my point...finger pointing only delays trying to make progress.....it's like driving in the snow and running off the side of the road...does it matter who was driving when you need to get the car out of the ditch?
Robert, I couldn't agree more...I told Clay H on his FB page today....I could less whose fault all this was....SOLVE THE PROBLEM!!!
