Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Well it's 3pm Friday afternoon and we still don't know. If the shutdown happens I know I'm not working -- NASA people work if and only if they are in control of a currently flying satellite, building one doesn't count -- but I don't know if contractors will be allowed to work. We CS folks have done our best to put the contractor work on autopilot so our project doesn't stop dead in its tracks, but that only helps if they actually allow contractors to work.

Congress has set a new low by putting military pay in play. I don't think even Gingrich and Clinton with their cheating hearts ever did that in 1995. But the impact goes far beyond that -- not just to my project but to everyone whose once in a lifetime trip to the Grand Canyon coincides with the shutdown.

Short version -- Congress sucks!

Just watched my son graduate from A School!!! How proud can one be?

As we walked accross the grounds, momments after the ceremony, to see my son's room, an officer came over the loud speaker to make comments about the shut down and what it meant for our sailors.

What a buzz killer (not to be technical !!!)

OK, How about:

If the government shuts down: our sailors are expected to continue doing their jobs and not get paid, while the Congress critters that failed to do their jobs will continue to draw salaries.

Unlike civilian government workers who can go get a part time job... (joke setup for another thread), then Navy tends to frown on that behavior from active duty personnel, and it's just about impossible for sailors on board ship (unless they're running a web-based business).

So now my son who has been living independently and serving for two years might need financial help(*) from mom & dad because the Congress failed!

I could go on...

(*) He hasn't asked us for help, and he's a good saver so he probably doesn't actually need any $$$ for several pay cycles.  But a car loan, and auto insurance, can eat up savings really fast.

Speaking of national anthem, did anyone see this story a couple of months ago? Somehow my "follows" all stopped following, so I've been off the site a while. But a positive story such as this can balance out a lot of bad news.

Does any one else wonder why DHS and ICE are busting people for copyright infringement instead of doing the job they are assigned to?

I agree they should screen the people that sing our National Anthem at those event !
