Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Mike:  I found the transcript (not hard to do, actually) of the Limbaugh statement you cited and I’ve included it, below, in its entirety.  Even though I’m semi-retired and have, according to my lovely wife, far too much free time on my hands, I don’t spend my days listening to the talk-show lineup offered by one of the local a.m. stations (Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage).  Still, even in the rather arid form of a transcript, it seems possible to me from reading this that Limbaugh might have been employing sarcasm or ironic language.  Unlike Ms Barkin’s comment, which she had the opportunity to repudiate and didn’t, Limbaugh’s comment appears to be facetious (which is a great word, the only word in the English language, by the way, that has all five vowels in order!).  Here’s the quotation, Navy Dads; decide for yourselves:

“Okay, folks, it's a moment of truth. We are mere hours away now from Tropical Storm Isaac, which everybody is desperately hoping becomes a hurricane. I can't believe this. They are desperately hoping that it becomes a hurricane. It's the Democrats' wet dream that this thing hits New Orleans. So, you know me. My middle name is Solutions. I have some ideas for the Republicans. How to deal with the tropical storm, slash, hurricane hitting New Orleans.

The first thing we do is offer to send 500 bus drivers to New Orleans, paid for by us, to make sure that the buses that were not used by the Democrat mayor during Hurricane Katrina will be used to evacuate people should it become necessary. The second thing that I think the Republicans ought to do is send bags of money instead of sand. Bags full of money to shore up the levees in New Orleans. This would accomplish many things. A, it would show our compassion. B, we could have Romney's five sons who CNN last night asked, "What's it like to be rich as sin," or whatever. They did. Piers Morgan asked Romney's sons, (paraphrasing) "What's it like to be stinking rich?" So we have Romney's five sons deliver the bags of money to shore up the levees.

Now, this will accomplish much. It will show our compassion, and it will do something else. Once we publicize that we have sent 500 bags of money -- well, whatever number of bags, bags filled with money to shore up the levees, what will happen? The poor of New Orleans will storm the levees and steal the bags, thereby putting themselves at risk for the eventual flooding that will happen once they remove the bags of money. And that way the Republicans can get rid of even more Democrats in Louisiana and shore up the state for themselves. How about those two ideas, folks? Am I not thinking or am I thinking?

Joseph --

It's there if you want to find it:

Once we publicize that we have sent 500 bags of money — well, whatever number of bags — bags filled with money to shore up the levees, what will happen? The poor of New Orleans will storm the levees and steal the bags, thereby putting themselves at risk for the eventual flooding that’ll happen once they remove the bags. That way Republicans can get rid of even more Democrats in Louisiana and shore up the state for themselves.

Rush Limbaugh, of course.

Speaking of Lt. Dan- A few years back when Dennis Miller had his show on CNBC he interviewed Sinise. Sinise said the most frustrating thing he was experiencing on his tours in Iraq was how the media would always turn the cameras off whenever our soldiers were doing the good things. If they were in a village building a school or just working on infrastructure nobody wanted to show that. If they wheeled into an area and the locals acted happy to see US troops the CNN types immediately left. If the SHTF though they were all over the bad stuff. Typical I suppose though.

Barkin' mad.... Joseph.  That's all that is. Samuel L Jackson is having the dickens of a time understanding why God spared Tampa, when He had a hurricane in the neighborhood that could have been put to such good use with so many Republicans gathered in one place.

Of course you can easily find "bad" examples anywhere, and on both sides.  It's good examples that are hard to find.  And no-- I wouldn't count Al Franken as a good example of anything other than an ass.

As opposed to an elephant.  lol

Mike:  You are absolutely correct, sir, to note that good and bad folks exist on both sides of the political spectrum--and trust me, when I find a Republican who openly states that Democrats should be washed out to sea, I'll pass that along to everyone here, too.

Kirk:  You're going to have a ruined 4 iron. . . .

@joseph --

Good & bad folk exist on both sides. Al Franken did many a USO tour when he was a mere celebrity and not a Senator. In the interests of civility I'll stick with the good guy example & not demonize the right.

Ha Ha! The golf bit is probably more accurate than we think. But I love it anyway. If any other golfers out there ever watch Feherty on Golf channel he always asks the interviewee what their ideal foursome would be. I think I'd like myself, Feherty, Obama, and Romney. We'd pepper 'em with questions and every time someone said something stupid they'd get smacked with a 4 iron.

Greg:  A rousing Hooyah to your son from an old USAF "medical services specialist" (that's old Air Force-speak for hospital corpsman).  Please be sure to pass along a hearty "thank you" from a geezer vet.  The Mark Helprin book is a great read--funny, intelligent, riveting story.

Jack Flash:  Lt. Dan is a special cat, no question.  For the antithesis of the Sinise point of view, see this other "open-minded," " progressive," Hollywood-type:  http://nation.foxnews.com/ellen-barkin/2012/08/28/ellen-barkin-hope... and remember her kind words and caring attitude for others. . . .

Wow it has been a while since I have been here. Lots going on. It was dead for ages. My son is in the sandbox and just got extended another two months. Not good news but we keep praying for safe return.

Joseph, I enjoyed the Freddy and Fredericka reference. If everyone did that we would not have politics, we would all just be good to one another. I give my son the same message every day as he works as a Corpsman in A-stan. Be a blessing today!

I am working in Iraq and it makes no difference if you are DEM or REP. It is easy to see our government is way too big and way to out of control. I see first hand how much money we throw away for no good reason. Lets just find a way to reduce the size and power of our government and do some of the heavy lifting ourselves. We will then understand what is really worth spending  money on.

Be a blessing today gentlemen!
