Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Did a little research, the unemployment rate will have to reach over 10% to show a recovery. Because of the way the numbers have been manipulated to keep the rate under 10% as those that are not now counted as unemployed but underemployed reenter the job market the unemployment rate will rise but this is actually a good thing.
One way to continue this rise in employment is to spend that extra dollar and buy made in U.S.A. products and shop your local small businesses, the mainstay of our economy

The numbers do speak for themself, 290,000 new jobs, unemployment rises to 9.9 percent. here are the missing stats: Counting people who have given up looking for work and part-timers who would prefer to be working full time, the so-called underemployment rate rose to 17.1 in April.

RE: BLS numbers...

[block quote]

Household Survey Data

In April, the number of unemployed persons was 15.3 million, and the unemployment rate edged up to 9.9 percent. The rate had been 9.7 percent for the first 3 months of this year. (See table A-1.)

[end quote]

Let's see... 15.3M people / 9.9% unemployed = 154M total people

What happened to the other 160M of so folks? Are they are neither employed nor unemployed? Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics.

I would suggest that there is something fishy in the data.

{aside -- I guess we really are in need of new census data???}

Clearly the government is misrepresenting the facts!

I'm fairly certain that they will say or do *anything* to keep that number below 10%, not because it really matters, but solely for psychological reasons.

Could be a good time for the return of American made products, the following is part of a letter I recieved from my main distributor of hardgoods
PRICING: Keeping up with the price increases this year will be a challenge. Not only are we
going to see numerous price increases but a slowdown in shipment of products and some
spotty shortages from our vendors. Many factors will cause this to happen.
1. There is a shortage of available workers in overseas factories. Foreign governments who have subsidized factories in the past have refocused their efforts towards farming. Those workers who left their homes to work in the factories will now stay home and work their land. With a major shortage of available factory workers we will see a slowdown in manufacturing.
2. Commodities have risen drastically over the last several months and will continue to rise all year. With both of these factors coming into play we will continue to see price increases and slow shipments.
We have already encountered slower shipping time on recent orders placed. We are constantly reviewing our factory lead times and adjusting our buy quantities to keep our service levels strong.
We will keep you posted on further developments as they occur

Also, why is it that people believe hoax e-mails without fact checking them, but don't believe descriptive statistics from the Commerce or Labor Department?
Case in point:

"The durability of this falsehood is remarkable. North himself debunked it publicly more than seven years ago, and it has been proven false again and again. Yet gullible people keep it going year after year.

North is a former Reagan White House national security aide and longtime conservative celebrity. The claim that he warned a congressional committee about bin Laden in 1987 is false on several counts.

It isn’t historically plausible, for one thing. Bin Laden didn’t form al Qaeda until the year following North’s testimony. In 1987 bin Laden was still fighting Soviet troops occupying Afghanistan, with the support of the United States.

Furthermore, then-Sen. Al Gore of Tennessee was not even a member of the congressional panel that grilled North during those 1987 televised hearings into the Iran-Contra affair. The full membership of the Senate Select Committee on Secret Military Assistance to Iran and the Nicaraguan Opposition is listed on page V of the final report, and Gore is not among them."

Again, I added emphasis. Five minutes of fact checking on three different sites all came up with the same answer and all linked to Oliver North's e-mail disavowing this rumor. But it's easier just to go ahead and take the cheap shot. I'm no lawyer, but I susepct if that one were directed at me rather than a public figure like Al Gore it would stand up in court as slander and/or libel.

Those mainstream media folk you disdain have a term for stories like that -- "too good a story to check".

@greg and kirk

That turns out not to be the case. From the BLS report I linked to before, with my emphasis added.

"In April, nonfarm payroll employment rose by 290,000. Sizable employment gains occurred in manufacturing, professional and business services, health care, and in leisure and hospitality. Federal government employment increased due to the hiring of temporary workers for Census 2010. Since December, nonfarm payroll employment has expanded by 573,000, with 483,000 jobs added in the private sector. The vast majority of job growth occurred during the last 2 months."

Much like FDR's programs such as the NRA (National Recovery Administration) and the WPA (Works Progress Administration) or jokingly known as We Poke Along, we're using gov't dollars to create paychecks for people. This creates unrealistic numbers because if the Stimulus dollars were to dry up, so would the jobs. BHO would love to cast himself in the role of the new FDR but he just doesn't have the right stuff.

Someone needs to say it.. The king has no close on.

That is from the make up a graph to fool the Obomabots and morons, media outlet. They don't tell you all the jobs created are Government sector jobs and the goal is to have everyone employed by government in the end. We then can turn on TASS and read Pravda to get our Government supplied info on which stores in town have bread, sugar and salt so we can go stand in line early.
