Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

IIRC, the person who dropped was the admin, because he wanted to preserve a neutral role. I don't really think that's necessary, as long as everyone gets heard.

Also, agencies don't have honor, people have honor. Compare the oath I took as a NASA civil servant 29 years ago to the Army's officer's oath of commission.

CIVIL SERVICE OATH: I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

US ARMY OATH: "I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

This mindless antigovernment stuff gets old, and I've been putting up with it my entire adult life. I am currently working on a weather satellite -- if the government is so bad there is no need to use the hurricane, blizzard or tornado warnings that these satellites produce and my satellite (2015 launch) will produce more rapidly.

I will submit that if you elect politicians who think government is the problem, you will get bad government. Small government and incompetent government aren't the same thing. Ike's administration is a notable example of a government that lived within its means but was somehow able to build the first nuclear subs, the first ICBMs, and the Interstate Highway System. Ike would be called a RINO in today's environment, sad to say.

In response to losing a longtime member:

I'm unsure of who decided to withdraw, but I will express my personal opinion that fleeing from a debate is not what I consider to be a noble sacrifice.

I don't recall seeing any posts condemning the call to overthrow the government. While I don't advocate the violent overthrow of the government, I relish the thought of 'retiring' of the betrayers of the Constitution in DC. I feel that the urging of radical change via the polling booth is exactly what this "experiment" is about.

And frankly, the Military is the only agency of government that still has an honor code that will prevent it from lining Americans up against the wall; the bureaucracy has betrayed the people. It's time to put a little fear of the people back into the government. I don't accept that I should fear the government but the government should fear the people. I'm sure we've all seen that liberty/tyranny quotation...

I hope the person that dropped is still lurking and will defend his opinion rather than walk away.

Respectfully,

Why limit to to the last century?

I hear they're upgrading the simulator for the Hunley (a small sub with supposedly advanced capabilities) at the Coltec facility at the head of the Connecticut & Trout Brook rivers in West Hartford CT. I was a contractor working on the T-8OO engine controllers when the Comanche Helicopter was canceled... I was the last man out the door after retasking the software from a dedicated 4 channels 2 engines to 1 or 3 engines 2 or 6 channels (insert Ford Tri-Motor joke here)...

I dropped a few names; et voila! ROFLCOPTER

Now that I can handle! I'll just let it be known that my nephew is aboard USS Nautilus!

That's the beauty of disinformation! If the info is wrong it's working ^_^

OPSEC says *NO* information should go out and I agree with that proclamation. But think about what you'd *like* to brag about and then simply alter names, dates, times, ships, ports, schools, quals, ranks, stats, etc... and post it!

The way I see it, for all of our flaws we have one very serious advantage over the terrorists; our sense of humor and irreverence. I suggest we make the most of it.

I'll pass ctyankee, too much thinking about what's disinformation, what's true, and what sounds plausible enough to be true but isn't makes my brain cell hurt. I admire the inclination to confuse our enemies, but I suspect the potential for error on our part should deter us.

In response to the notice on OPSEC --

I'd like to suggest we start a dis-information campaign to hamper the efforts of the groups that are trying to collect data.

Naturally, to be effective the volume of dis-information would have to be roughly similar to the volume of real information that is leaking. That might represent the only true challenge to smudging the results.

However if the information superhighway becomes littered with an enormous quantity of debris, it might be possible to so thoroughly swamp the actual information leakage that there is no hope of our enemies recovering anything useful at all.

I would hope that out counter-intelligence folks are already working on this; and I'm certain they're using far more sophisticated techniques than a 1st order smear...

So I'll pose a question:

Should we casually discuss items of *purely fictional intelligence* at times and placed of opportunity, to help pollute the data pool?
