Thats great he has something he wants to do Steve.

Michael was already in boot camp before he was 18. He will be 31 in 2 months. The Navy is really all he knows. He is a CM so he has the skills to help with what he wants to do. I am not sure I know how as a mom I feel about this motorcycle stuff. I remember his accident and all we went through as if it was yesterday. Its been a hard 2 years with so many changes. I cant see him with a desk job somewhere thats just not him.. Maybe one of those guys that test video game would be good for him..lol

James is just barely starting and has a lot of life ahead of him,but if it happens he will just come back home and enroll in centralia comm. college as they have a very good welding school.. That is pretty much all he has wanted to do  since he graduated from high school is weld.. One way or the other he will reach his journeyman level !!!

Michael has been passing his test but hasnt been able to advance in the past couple of years. He had hopes of being about to retire at his 20 years but I dont know that he is going to be able to. He did say that he was going to go reserves and use his GI bill for school in Az. Guess there is a top rated motorcycle repair school there. The nice thing is at least he will be on the same cost as I am for once in 13 years

Hi Denise, yea it kinda looks to me that the Navy is trying to thin the ranks thru attrition!! Not sure what they are doing with the other rates, but we will all have a better idea after the next advancement cycle... James thought going into this last cycle that he had a fair to middlin shot with the 6 points he had accrued plus the E.P. The only things working in his favor right now is (1. His attitude and work ethic. (2. He has only been in 27 months out of a possible 96 months.. If he choses to continue past his original 60 month enlistment. Time will tell !!

Steve I just got off the phone with mine. He said that in his opinion he feels that the Navy is going to try to away with Seabee's. Since they arent advancing them its going to be hard for him to stay in. Its got 13 years this July. He has to make 1st calss by 14 years. Michael likes MS but is ready to do something different.

Sounds pretty close Denise... Is your son looking forward to that journey? I know James was never so glad to get out of where he was at over there !

My son is in the 7 . He said that when he gets back from Afgan next year there is a good chance he will have to turn around and go back out. So I would be guess about the same time frame

Hi Denise.. Yes,I knew about the 40th being decommissioned ,but I hadn't heard about the 7th... Do you know when the 7th was scheduled for decommissioning? The 40th is about 2 years from now!

I agree Steve.. things are still mighty tough all over... I know James unit is well over 100% and things are going to get even tougher ,at least for the 40th here in the next couple of years!!! I am just wondering if the Navy will freeze the Bee's rates for a spell or is this problem Navy wide in all rates.Gonna be an interesting time for everyones sailors here in the next few years !!!
