Kevin, it can get cold in Hawaii. Tell him to watch the weather on the Big Island and he can go snow skiing. It is not a bad run.

Kevin; Is the abbreviation "PTA" a Navy one or does it represent something else?

Hey Byron, basic training has actually gone by really fast. Im not sure if it's because I'm busy or because I'm looking forward to seeing him. I did however get some bad news, I'll be in Alaska during his graduation. We planned and planned and it still is not going to work out. The Alaska trip was planned and paid for 1 year before he joined and it's not refundable. I have trip insurance but it dosen't cover graduations. I'm very dissapointed but don't really know what to do. Blake is ok with it but dosent want me to miss the Seal's graduation. I won't miss that one!!

Chris, Blake is in div. 839 and on ship 4. I really don't understand how all these numbers work because your son started either right before or right after my son. Anyway, I guess their not in the same div. but your never know if they'll meet. That will be cool if they do! I do however miss him alot. Hoping for a phone call soon.

Hey Edward, It makes me feel better knowing that someone else has gone threw what I am and that it does get easier. I can't wait until he does come home for a little while. When he has left before it was for a short time and it was different, now it is different for a different reason and I feel it. I hope it gets easier soon.

Roy, for me it got easier, once he was out of boot camp.....He finished A school and has been home for almost 2 weeks. He leaves tomorrow for Little Creek in Virgina.... But just knowing he is doing something good with his life makes it easier for me......

He is ready to get to Virgina....
Stay strong and you will be so excited at PIR to see him.....

Take care-
ED

Hello All! We are from Cypress, northwest of Houston, and our son, Matthew, is an FC2 on the USS Nassau based in Norfolk. He has been in the Navy for 5 years and on the Nassau for four. He re-upped last year for an additional 4 years and will be rolling to shore duty in the next year. We don't get to see our grandbabies in Virginia near enough !

Edward...trust me, the cell phone NEVER leaves my side :-)
We got is first letter yesterday and what a relief!!!! He seems in good spirits.
But I cant wait for that first phone call just to hear his voice.
Roy...is Blake in Division 288? If so, our sons are together. I am really hoping that Byron is right and this does go quickly. The letter helped but it still is difficult not having him around!

Hello Roy, my son's PIR was 5 weeks ago. Basic training goes really fast. He got 2 reward calls and really surprised us when we told us he was placed in an advanced division. He actually finished basic in 6 weeks. Anyway, if your son is young like mine (19), it is hard when they first leave. But it does go quickly. If you are lucky, his "A" school will be close enough for you to visit. My boy has 4 weeks left at his "A" school in San Antonio. We have already visited him once and we talk (or text) everyday. He will get 14 days leave to come home after graduation, then he's off to Bahrain.

Hellow everyone. I'm from Odessa, TX. My son Blake just receintly joined the Navy and is in his 2nd week at boot camp. Received his BOX three days ago and his address letter yesterday. Still not sure what to do with him not around. So, I guess this get easier??

PIR for my son was three years ago next month. The wife and I were able to take his brother and sister with us for the trip, and it was one of the highlights of my life. The only thing so far that is one the same level was the commissioning ceremony for his sub. I've got a picture collage of Nathan's PIR that you can see at this link.

PIR is exciting..some of my camara shot's were blurred by my hand's shaking when my son walked through the door....LOL

and for the lighting i totally agree...some shots came out dark, if not for walmart, and being able to lighten the picture's up we would of lost some good shot's....

Chris only in letters for now will you hear from your son...Phone call we got 3 the whole time....so carry your cell phone with you at all time...you will never really know what day or time they will call........
