Navy Dads

My son is currently on his first deployment on a submarine. My ex-wife (mom) is concerned with the hurricanes. I told her that  she should not worry about that because submarines are under water and have the ablity to get well below any issues a hurricane can present. Can anyone enlighten me any more on this issue?

Thanks, Jerry

Subs behave the best when submerged.....they'll skirt the storms for safety, but storms pose little threat
Hurricanes pose virtually no threat. A while back, my son was deployed during the Tsunami that hit Hawaii. I did some research and, while I can't find the articles I looked at... at 700 feet (test depth) there is no impact.
Although now relegated to the halls of history, the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" ride at Walt Disney World actually featured the sunken remains of surface ships unfortunate enough to tangle with heavy seas and storms. I recall distinctly that Capt. Nemo came on the PA and assured us that the Nautilus was capable of diving below any storm that could possible harm us. ^_^

Also heard at Walt Disney World in the 70's 80's and 90's... I think it was "Mr Toad's Wild Ride"...

"Step off to your right please. When the car stops please step off to your right." (repeat endlessly)

I rode out a Tsunami outside of Hong Kong in the early 1970's.  We were 400' and could feel the effects of the weather from above.  Nothing more than a little rolling from side-to-side mind you, but still enough to impress us with the strength of storms above us.  However, NO DANGER whatsoever!
