Good question. I, too, would like an explanation of how the Navy Submarine mail works.

Dear Friends, my son is on a Boomer and they are out of contact with those of us in the atmosphere for long periods of time; longer than the Fast Attacks. We have had a very good email system. I am very tired now - so much Thanksgiving Dinner and Fine Wines and Scotch - however, i will get back to you tomorrow or the next day if you want, and explain how i was in contact with the guy who designed the software that gets emails out to the subs in a very fast and convenient way. There aint much to it, so i think it has more to do with the specific sub / command , than it has to do with the technology. By the way, my son just made Third Class the other day ! We are so proud of him ! God's Peace this Holy day. Can you imagine sleeping next to nuclear missals ....??!

My son is also stationed in Hawaii aboard SSN 717 Olympia. When he informed me of his WestPac tour I assumed that mail would not be held for him. You answered what I assumed. I have kept in contact with him through cell phone, at port stops in Guam and Japan, and sailor mail directly to the boat. Sometimes I wouldn't hear from him for weeks at a time. My son is due back at Pearl Harbor in December also. So it will be great to be able to talk with him. I have alot of snail mail to forward to him, so he'll have plenty to read after he arrives in port.
