This is my uncle's account of his time on board USS Nevada (SSBN-733) during a week long tiger cruise from San Diego, CA to Bangor, WA. This also happened to be my last time ever underway on a…Continue

Today is my son's last day in the USN. He performed his five year contract for submarines and decided that was enough for him. I tried to convince him to stay in, as did his cousin and an uncle…Continue

Getting on the boat is pretty cool. My family met our son at The Pearl when he returned to port (SSN 698 Bremerton) after his first assignment. A couple days later we got a tour. Later that year I got to go on a 1 day dependant cruise too. Due to a propulsion problem, we didn't get to submerge, but we did put to sea and return to port. I did get to see HI from the sail.
My son is not on the boat at this time as he developed a medical issue that put him on shore duty. He's still at The Pearl and still has a room in the Towers though.
Michael E. Thanks. My son is a nuc (or is it nuke?), too, and I know that access to that area of the boat is very restricted. He will start proto soon. Would love to see him go Mustang, but it's his life, not mine and I don't know if he really wants that, yet.
Doing a cruise is definitely something I am VERY interested in. Short notice is somewhat understandable, but might make it difficult to arrange my work and family schedules. However...Carpe Diem!
God Bless those who serve and defend.
read about one here (you guys have to explore the site more LOL!) http://www.navydads.com/group/tigerorfamilydaycruise/forum/topics/t...
Michael E., my son is on the Albuquerque too, he was on that Westpac in 2014, but he got off in Pearl and flew back to SD, making room for the Riders, lol.... He's out there with your son again, his 2nd Westpac; the wife and I hope to go out when they pull in later this year. He's a 2nd generation Submariner, I spent 4 years pushing the 707 through the ocean after my 2 years of training.... Go Navy!!
Seriously!?! A Tiger Cruise on a SSN? And all the way from Pearl to SD? How long were you on the boat? If I am reading your post correctly, I am shocked. And now very hopeful to share that with my Sailor some day.
I had the enormous pleasure of taking a Tiger cruise on the USS Albuquerque (SSN 706) August of 2014. We went from Pearl Harbor to homeport San Diego. I agree with you whole heartedly that the experience of meeting the Officers and shipmates of my son did a world of good in putting my mind at ease about his safety.
The moral on the boat even after an 8 month deployment was outstanding. The Captain and chiefs were more than helpful answering questions and keeping me informed about what was going on and how my son was doing with his career. MMN1,
My son is back on deployment and I received word that his Chief has made him an LPO. He is rightfully very proud of that as am I.
Bravo Zulu to all.
