If they get a break or not depends on timing.  If their next class forms up immediately then they don't.  If they get put on hold, they might be able to ask for a chit for leave.  My son was in Bess at Christmas time when the school shuts down and a bunch of people took a week of leave but I think they went into a negative balance,

In terms of machinists mates, At my son's graduation, the next thing for the machinist mates started right away but that could be just timing.  The sailors who are suppose to take ATT, had to wait a bit. 

 

Somewhere there is a Groton submarine base website which lists all the off limits locations.
