I know FT and ST are in Groton and I am pretty sure ET is as well.

Did I hear that one of the A schools is at Kings Bay, or are they all in Groton?

They give them a briefing on the differnt ratings during the early stages of BESS and then the sailors put in a sheet with their preferences.  By the end of BESS, they definitely know.  The next path (ATT and TCHNO) are the same for all the ET, ST or FT.  After that they get divided up into their A schools.  I think for A school, my son said they start up a new cycle about every three weeks.  Pete

He's in the Electronics Tech program, so either ET, ST, or FT; when do they find out which school they get, during BESS, or at the end? Nukes don't go to Sub School, that's why I can't relate to this part.

Hey all, my son just just arrived in Groton for BESS, just looking for general info/schedule; I'm an ex-Submariner, nuke MM, and west coast Sailor besides, so I don't know much about BESS or Groton.....

Just got word from son that he graduated from ATT this morning! He says he now officially an MT! Next stop C School in Georgia!

The Tom Clancy book is very informative.  It discusses Los Angeles class attack boats but also talks about submarines from other countries.  I believe the USS Miami was the boat he used for most of the book.  It is a good read.

He is a MT. He will be going to Kings Bay, GA. He will be there for several months.

I'm heading to Atlanta on business in May and my boss is letting me take some vacation time to weekend in Kings Bay with my son. He is looking forward to showing me around the base. Should be a good time. Of course I may have to take him out shopping for some new gadgets while I'm in town.
