Thanks for sharing Cheri - that sounds like a lot of fun for you and yes, bound to put a little anxiety into your son. Not too many civies get to see the inside of a sub much less a grand tour.

Hi everyone, new to the site. Our son is in Charleston half way thru power school.

Cheri- I am really envious.  That was suppose to happen for my son's class but for some reason they had to cancel.  Also, my son is an FT and FT A school is four months long.  Pete

Cheri-  Go to the Nautilus and submarine museum right by the base.  That I think is a must.  If you are into history, Mystic Seaport is in Mystic Ct. which is right up the road.  It is a museum/interactive on the whaling and fishing industry.  It is a nice place to spend the afternoon.  They also have the aquarium there.  I think New London Ct which is across the river is the more touristy spot

Cheri - not familiar with Groton. We weren't able to make the BESS graduation. Good thing too as he was bumped up a week to get down to GA asap. Son is an MT. Long C-school!

I second KHK's thought.  We were really glad we went.  PIR at boot camp was big Navy.  BESS graduation is I think a good example of the "small" Navy/submarine community. Both my wife and I liked BESS graduation better than PIR.

My son stayed in the same room through all of his schools at Groton. One roommate did rotate out.

Now at C-school he has a room to himself. At least so far! He really likes Kings Bay.

Man, I gotta spend more time with my son so he can explain all this lingo. I believe he is going through BESS now. I need to learn about what he has on his agenda.

Hi Cheri,

I know they changed buildings after they got done with ATT and Techno.  After Bess, I think they moved to a different part of the building same building they were in but it wasn't right away.

Reply to Cheri-  Hello, My son John is starting FT-A school today so if your son is starting they may be classmates.  I think John told us that FT-A school went until very late August or early September which is in line with the 18 weeks.  Pete
