In April 2008 Commander Friedman reported aboard USS PENNSYLVANIA (BLUE) (SSBN 735) as Executive Officer. While onboard, he completed three strategic deterrent patrols and commenced an extended refueling overhaul period at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. During his tour PENNSYLVANIA earned the 2008 COMSUBRON SEVENTEEN Battle Efficiency "E" and the Navy League Outstanding Trident Performance Award.

He reported to Naval Reactors In February 2010 for his current shore assignment as the Special Assistant to the Deputy Director for Officer Policies and Plans.
