from the Abe:
OK Lincoln Nation....you'll slowly return to earth after your cruise.....when things settle down why not write a series of blogs about your cruise. I go back and re-read the blogs I wrote after my cruise in '09 on the Roosevelt and it is like reliving the experience all over....
Wow! back home from the Tiger thing and Abe reporting for total upgrade thing at Norfolk.
The Sailors I met on the Tiger thing were so cool and competent and just aching to get home. Sleeping (or trying to sleep) in that rack where you can't sit up. Our kids lived in that substandard living space for a whole 8 months -- and that was the least of their problems -- because they were busting their gutz to make the ship work -- which they did -- did all totally crazy shift work and insane hours --
For me the Tiger Cruise thing opened my eyes - to how difficult it is to live on a working warship at sea. And how extremely dedicated and competent our kids are to just make the whole ship work. They just DO IT. They make it work.
My respect for the crew was already high - but actually experiencing the crowded damp demanding world they live in at sea --
Bless all their bloody gutz --
Was real good to meet so many totally competent dedicated sailors on Abe.
And also how
Echo that about the Tiger cruse. My son has some great buddies and squadron mates. Got to meet his CO and stand with him when they pinned his wings on. Overall just a darn good time!
had a great tiger saw the air show and all, all of the sailors were very helpful to all of the tigers. Saw the sailors giveing up seats and everything. I was just able to comp a meal for a sailor and his family. Didnt know them but it was great to watch the family from a distance. My way of saying thanks
Watch the Abe come into port sometime today.....
