Just looking for confirmation of dates to book flight etc.

Hopefully just verification of what is already out. I do not have much wiggle room as I need to be in Chicago the 10th for my 3rd sons graduation from Boot Camp.

Thanks Dan.  I appreciate the info.  Haven't booked anything yet waiting to hear more.  My son is in VFA 34.  Talked with him over the weekend and he said more info should be coming soon.

@ Dan Thomason, Myself and younger son are as well. My son on the Abe. said to bring a sleeping bag in order to be off the sheets, for what its worth. Other than that, pack light. Bring light jacket for on the deck. Souvenir cash, camera etc. Your typical tourist stuff. We have booked out hotel already. Hopefully it will keep schedule.

I am planning on making the Tiger cruise on the Lincoln.

Any helpful hints or info would be greatfully appreciated.

Ex wife called me from her doctors office today, her doctors son is CMDCM Howat, Command Master Chief of VFA-137 "The Kestrels"

Small world indeed.

The actual date when CVN 72 enters the drydock at Huntington Ingalls (formerly Grumman Northrop) is probably classified and possibly not even set yet.

A web search on "CVN 71 RCOH schedule" brings up a lot of info (top hits are all on "defense industry daily") about Abe's predecessor in the RCOH process.

So, generally speaking, based on the known data on TR (CVN 71) , Abe will be at HII in Newport News (north of the James River and only a few hours commute by crowded bridges and tunnels from all the other bases in the area) for 2-3 years.  And possibly also some time at NNYS (that's Norfolk Navy Shipyard - which is on the west bank of the Elizabeth River - actually in Portsmouth - after that - nobody knows - possibly Abe will be based at Norfolk Navy base (actually in Norfolk) on the east side of Elizabeth River up north on the Bay. Or possibly not. There's so many different bases and so many bad commutes there.

Me and my daughter have been researching this for a month or so, and it's real confusing, to say the least. Everett was small and simple, she could jog to the ship only 3 miles from her apt. In Hampton Roads - no way - 10 mile commute probably takes an hour.

The whole Hampton Roads area is miles and miles of gray with bridges and tunnels and reputedly really bad traffic for commuting. The only time I was there was 25-30 years ago -- maybe the carrier we saw a few miles away in one of the many bays and estuaries and shipyards was Abe -- could of been she was building about that time.

Good luck - any current information on living and working in Hampton Roads would be very welcome.
