My son was assigned to Abe on Dec 16. He asked about temporary assignments and they told him not to even ask at this point. Could have been because he had just arrived, I dont know. Again, I am not sure but sounds like they are using them as extra labor along with the civilians and to my understanding they are ahead of schedule.

That is a possibility, Ward.  But as I understand it, Abe sailors can volunteer to take short tours of duty on other ships leaving out of Norfolk or Newport News.  Correct me if I'm wrong about this, anyone...

quite possible....RCOH is a 3-4 year process...as I recall from my son's carrier (Theodore Roosevelt) it involves about 25 million man hours of work!!!!

My son recently finished prototype and has been assigned to the Abe. He's been told that, because of the RCOH, he may not go to sea in his remaining 3+ year first enlistment.

hello to all my Airman i stationed at the shipyard in which she is be rebuilt as a crew member. This is our first holiday season without him and we are so incredibly proud of him. We are from a state that would have never been without Abraham Lincoln so this duty is meaningful in many ways

Merry Christmas to every one. This is our first Christmas without our sailor. Kind of sad, but we sure are proud of him and all of the others sailors
