Bahaha, Paul I'd be pretty darn proud of myself. Do much the same thing for my annual Paris Trips. and its pretty fun to relive it! And those of us that poured over every page and shot loved it! Helped me know what my hubby was talking about :)
My project is taking son's deployment shots and starting a book for him. Turns out he's a pretty good photographer! Who knew?

well, now I'm embarrassed!  I would still write the blogs....you don't need to publish them, but believe me, when you go back and re-read them it is like reliving the experience....kinda like a "My Summer" diary !!!!

PS, Forrest, those of us on the pier talked ALOT about how awesome it must be to be up there manning the rails with your son or daughter! What an experience! We enjoyed watching you !!

Well said Bill, I was on the TC as well and ditto your sentiments exactly. The highlight of my trip was having the honor of standing behind my son as he manned the rails coming into Norfolk.  To hear the cheers and horns honking from people as soon as IKE entered the channel was so moving.  Those sailors stood at attention, and ocassionally parade rest, at the rails for over 2 1/2 hours.  There were four or five heavy rain showers too, but they proudly stood at their posts through it all.  It was AMAZING...

I am so thankful that the Navy allows the TC and, like Bill said, for the sailors adding another stop to take us on after a long deployment.

one of the best ways to set those memories into stone is to write a series of blog posts about your experiences.....jus' saying

Hey Bill, I wish I could have met you! but am glad you and Bob connected. He felt very much the same way as you, so nice of you to put it all in writing. I still am hearing snippets or stories and bits of fun you all had. I believe the highlight of his time was spending time just "chilling and chatting" with the guys on board and as well, spending time getting to know our Son's friends. He got off the ship and said it was "the best ever" and tears came to his eyes. I got it ! And I must say, my time on the Pier was pretty awesome too. What an experience seeing the Ike come into port! Bravo Zulu all!

Well everyone, I have returned from the Tiger Cruise and am back in Minnesota. It has taken me some time to process everything I experienced and I wanted to take some time before blubbering out raw feelings (I could have done so easily).

First I want to thank everyone here for their previous posts about "Do's and Don'ts" on Tiger Crusies. Your insights and advice were right on target.

Second, I would like to thank everyone on here for their help and advice throughout both deployments. You all helped me through this tough time.

I got to meet your husband Laurie, that was me on the phone. That was a kick!

Finally, and certainly not least, I want to thank all the sailors on the Ike who graciously allowed us into their "home". They all performed magnificently on Deployment (part 2) and I am sure they only had thoughts of returning to their loved ones and not go BACK out to sea to placate a bunch of us civilian types. Everyone was gracious, helpful, and could not have been better hosts.

A final note. I am so proud of these men and women I feel I could bust! To think where they had been, what they had done, and the missions they completed makes me scratch my head in awe, wonderment, and amazement. These men and women did what they did not with the newest ship with the newest equipment. They did what was asked of them in some very trying circumstances.

It dawned on me that it is not the ship, the planes, or all the bells an whistles, but it is the men and women that serve the Ike that make it so special. They truly bring the ship alive. They make the ship an instrument of peace for our country and for all of us.

From the bottom of my heart I am thankful we have men and women left in this country willing to make so many sacrifices (sailors and families).

Welcome home Ike and job well done!

May God always bless and keep safe the sailors who served and will serve on THE finest ship in the Navy!
