Here we are already close to 2 months into this deployment and I have only heard from my son once. I wish the ship would get him email but he said that he has tried and they keep putting him off. I wish there was a way to get a message to him to call home I don't want to go to the Ombudsman because this is certainly not an emergency but like any parent we worry.
Hey Rod, thanks! I was on the USS Truxton for a couple of leisurley outings at the yacht club. My son's recently picked the Ike for his orders. He is still in A school. AE is his rate. He's going to VFA-103, the Jolly Rogers.
ralph, welcome aboard. Good to see another Viet Nam Vet on here. Served on USS Chara, USS Canberra, and Naval Support Activity - DaNang. My son just came aboard in January, previously at NAS Meridian and USS Stennis. He is Bay 2 PO and is an ABH2.
ok I am only throwing ideas out here... If a person was to buy 2 voice recoreder like Sony Digital Flash Voice Recorder (ICD-PX312). amazon is currently selling this one for $48 but figure the cost of just one phone call that price isn't too bad.. then what would be cool is this recored will record on Sandisk 8GB M2 Memory Stick Micro (SDMSM2-008G-K, Bulk Package) then family could record stuff for the sailor and place the memory stick in a letter. being that the memory card has no wieght you could mail it back and forth to each other to hear each others voices.. once the sailor gets the letter the sailor puts the memory card in the recorder and can listen to the messages from the family...
Just an idea..
instead of sending folks away from ND, why don't you copy that stuff and post it here for all to read!!
Hello Ralph, Welcome! I think they try to port every month or so. They have stopped twice in the past two months, but they were close together. Perhaps some of the veteran sailors (parents)in the room can tell you how the schedule those. My son is an AD on the IKE with the E-2C Hawkeye and this his first deployment.
