Hello all,,  Our Son Jacob has just reported to Norfolk and has been assigned to the Eisenhower. Not sure when he will actually report to the ship. I understand it is out to sea at this time. Our Son is an Airman and will be working on the flight deck.

We are new to the Navy, so we will probably have alot of questions if you folks don't mind.

Hi Dan, where they are at sea the phone calls and email come very slowly.  They normally are at work and sometimes do not have time to communiate with you.  They primarily have to use Navy equipment for the calls and emails and this adds to the slowness of their communications.  Also when they are at sea, their personal phones can not pick and signals to use for calls.  When I was on the cruise I could not use my personal phone because of a lack of a signal.  Sorry you will not make this family day.  Our daughter is attending but we had already made vacation and travel plans.  Hope this helps.

HI Ed, Our son didn't get his "C" school so he will report to the Eisenhower sometime around 16 Aug. I can't wait for a tiger cruise, it looks like we'll just miss this next one. Our son is planning on a Navy career as well. How does the phone calls & e-mail work when they are at sea? Can they use personal phones & computers or just Navy equipment?

I just registered at IkeFamily.com and it's a good thing I did! I found out there that a registration form needs to be filled out and submitted by July 30th for the family cruise next month.

Hi Dan, our son in on the Eisenhower and is in Air Traffic Control.  He is Ensign Smith has been on the Eisenhower for 2 years.  He plans to make the Navy a career.  I was fortunate enough to go on the tiger cruise last year and got to meet all the AC folks.  It really makes you proud of your son or daughter and proud to be an American.

Ike's web page has a picture of her along side the USS Enterprise.  Look on the 'News' tab.

New to group. My son is just finishing AC school in Pensacola, He has put in for C school as well but hasn't heard if he is "in". He will be going aboard the "Ike" when he leaves Pensacola. No date as yet. I look forward to talking & meeting y'all. Anyone else have family in Air Traffic Control? (AC)

Any ideas on Navy housing in the area?  What is good or what is bad.  I am sure all he would qualify for is 2BR.
