Stoney - how exciting for you and your son.  Great that he has some buddies going with him too.  He will want to get a cell phone/plan in Japan,  he'll just need to ask around once he is there.

My son is assigned to the GW,Aviation department will be in Japan this week, guess he will be sitting on the base for a while going thru indoc etc, Has 4 others going with him so he has a buddy from boot camp going with him. I look forward to being in this group and following our sons & daughters..never has women on board back in my days. He has been trying to get some info before arriving like, phone recommended when ashore and berthing space,,still just a rack or are their lockers to stow gear also, thanks

Just got an email from my son, he said they got mail today and he received one of the packages we sent last month.

Hello
This is my first post on this site. I have been on Japan dads for awile. My son Erick is a Ao on the GW with HS-14 and I have'nt heard anything from him since they were deployed. I would like to know how some of you are hearing from your sailors. (mail, e-mail, Phone).

I had an e-mail from my g'daughter yesterday.  I had asked about the last package I sent.  She said they had not received mail since leaving Japan.  She said there were over 8 tons of mail on "the beach" but that a delivery arrived shortly before she sent the note.  I also saw a picture of pile of mail on the GW site.  There were many, many boxes and bags of mail.  There was mention that it would take a bit to get it all delivered.

Wow!  That has been awhile!  I'm surprised.  I don't mail packages on a regular basis, but last summer they arrived within a couple weeks every time.

Our last one was mailed in June, no sign of it or the ones sent 3 weeks ago...

Jim G.

My sailor said they hadn't gotten mail in a little while so I'm sure very soon they'll receive mail and packages will arrive.  I just mailed one on the 9th of July so I'm anxious to see how quickly it arrives.

Has anyone had any success getting packages to your sailors on the GW?  We have mailed several and our son has not received them yet, just wondering if others are experiencing the same problem?
