A note from the Navy's BEST Ombudsman Team

by USS George Washington (CVN 73) on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 6:32am

Dear GW Families,

We would like to reassure each and everyone of you that we are going to continue our roles as your Ombudsman like normal. Our contact phone numbers have temporally changed to US numbers (listed below), due to we are all in the states and for the time being can not use our Japan based cell phones. For all of our families regardless if you are in the United States or in Japan, please do not hesitate to contact us through our email  GW3OMBUDSMAN@YAHOO.COM with any questions or concerns that you may have. We will continue to keep you up to date with the latest information in regard to the USS George Washington, and CFAY. We are here for you and no matter where we physically are we will continue to take care of our Families.

We would like to also remind those families that have taken part in the Military Assisted Departures or left Japan on their own to update their information in the Navy Family Accountability and Assistance System (NFAAS) https://navyfamily.navy.mil/  Please refer to the attachment for full instructions. If you have trouble logging onto this website, please let the Ombudsman Team know.  It is important to update your information any time you change location as well, as this is how the Navy will track where you are when it comes time to return to Japan.

It is interesting that your son does not yet have an email account.  My son (also a nuke) reported in December and has had a ship's email address for about a month now.

this link

will give you an overview of the Ombudsman progam and how important it is.  The ombudsman is on officially recognized civilian that acts as a conduit between command and family.....

Thanks to all who are posting info from thier Sailors.  My son joined the ship right before Thanksgiving last year and he still does not have an email account.  He is a nuke and we did get to speak to him before they left port.

Also, being new to the Sailors and military life, what is the ombusdsman and why when would I want to use the service?

Thanks.

Got a couple of emails from Aaron yesterday, says he is doing well and confirmed that they are all very busy.  He said they are not currently getting mail, but that does not mean we should not continue sending them mail and packages.  I was very happy to hear from him, sounds like he has a lot of time underway to work on his quals, so he will be able to get ahead.  His Mom was very relieved as I know she has been worried, even though I continue to assure her that he is in the safest possible place and that no news really is good news in a case like this.

try the ombudsman...click this link

be realistic considering recent events...understandably command is probably pretty busy and getting thousands of requests for info...odds are they would not respond if not an official communications

No news is always good news.  Reading about the GW on Facebook showing the exercises the sailors are doing, and the "civilian" of the day. I know they are safe and sound but would still like to hear from him.

Recently heard from my son on the GW, first contact since the quake. He blames email/computer issues and being extremely busy.  I am definitely starting to adopt Cora's philosophy as "no news is good news".

Does anybody know if they can get mail while they are out. Thought I saw a posting on the GW facebook page that said not to send mail yet.
