So far as I know Alex is still in Misawa. We has an Iphone4 that he got recently and (when he has a chance) has been on FB and even talked to us via skype last week (I think). Haven't heard from him of late though...and can only assume that he is still there with his squad loading supplies to be dispersed...or ????

Last I heard the 7th is out in the ocean doing figure 8's or something to that extent...probably the same thing with the Reagan and her battle group.

loss of internet is very common.  the carriers have limited bandwidth...went almost 3 weeks when my son was on cruise with no e-mail......

Cora. I basically just said the same thing on Facebook. But we are a little concerned about the "no internet," at least I am. We know that misinformation is a no go, but not hearing from our family members can be a little unsettling. Yes, they are in good handss but an email would be nice. Thank you Cora,

Thanks Jim. From what I have read on Facebook the ship is having problems with email, but it is supposed to be up soon. The only problem then will be oveloaded computers being bogged down from over use on a satelite uplink.

James, my son Aaron was told at the last minute that he would not be able to stay after all...just like the military!  He left with the ship and we have not heard from him since.  I am going with "no news is good news" and will look forward to him when he pulls into port (hopefully in the not too distant future!)

I undertand. They never know where they are going. The need to know and those that do know, don't tell. Just to make sure they get there. I can go on Facebook and look at the GW site there for updates, see how other military family are feeling now. But this is a smaller, more personal group. I would much rather speak and ask questions here with other dads about our family members on board ship

I've heard from my son and it's just business as usual, but there are limited computers available for them to communicate with. They do not have much information about where they're headed... just rumors. :)

Richard, if China really had anything of the sort they wound not advertise it. Just like their new "stealth" bomber. I do believe anything they have to shoot at us, a patriot missle will take out. The carriers have many counter measures to deploy, including a 50mm rapid fire gun that locks on the the heat signature of the incoming missles.

Yes...I can only imagine. He has been on the GW for (thinking here) 7-9 months - a three year tour of Japan. Hmmm, who'd a thunk that that would include an 8.9, a 30' tsunami and a nuke that is threatening to burn a whole in the ground...and all in the 1st year.

I was concerned at first with the news that China had released the news of its "carrier" killing cruise missle in the beginning and now this...hmph. I trust in GOD to watch over him though

Richard, my son is IS. He has been on the GW for fifteen months now, and finally got to his duty station. He was a MA for a while. Now that he is in his own field, I haven't heard from him. For an information specialist, he gives no information to his family. I am a bit concerned. I know I shouldn't be, but I guess I can't le go.
