Paul, I frequently play what I call a "what next" game. I read the news and listen to chatter on the different sites. But I never make my hypotheses public. I know that is exactly what spooks do and no sense in helping them. This morning my g'daughter commented that I am often right. I don't even tell her what I am thinking until after the fact.
I try not to ask questions that might lead to her divulging accidentally something she shouldn't. I figure the less I really know the less likelihood I will let something slip.
Jim, BZ to Aaron volunteering to help with the relief and recovery. Although I know it makes you concerned, it has to also make you very proud. of him. I understand your concern about what he will experience. It will be life changing. He will be in my thoughts and prayers. Do keep us informed.
Found out last night that our son, Aaron, will not be leaving Japan. He has volunteered to stay behind for the relief and recovery efforts and left the ship last night. Not much in the way of details right now, but my wife and I would appreciate your continued prayers for Aaron and for all of our young men and women over there. We are not as concerned for his safety as we are for how what he may see could effect him. I will post more details as they become available.
Anyone else here with sailors who will be working on the relief and recovery efforts?
Well said, Paul! There is nothing to be gained by sharing operational details in a public forum such as this...and potentially a LOT to lose.
Remember that the ultimate purpose of OpSec is to protect those we love from harm!

your comments Jim G match what I posted on Facebook yesterday:
After listening to the media "report" on the reactor situation in Japan for almost a week I've concluded the numerical speed limit on most US freeways is higher than their IQ's on nuclear matters.....
I spoke with my son, Aaron, last night. He is stationed on the GW in the Reactor dept. I just want to assure all of you that the "nukes" on board the GW are continuously performing thorough surveys of the ship and are taking all actions necessary to keep our sailors safe from any radioactivity from the reactor emergencies up north. I will not go into detail, but can assure you as both a father of one of our sailors and as a nuke with over 25 years of experience that I am confident the measures being taken will assure the safety of our loved ones.
I am writing this primarily due to some of the exagerated reports in the media, and to reassure you all that the safety of our sailors is first and foremost in the minds of the Navy, even as they fulfill their mission. There is no need for fear at this point.
I am proud of each and every sailor, marine and family member represented in this forum who are so willing to help their neighbors in Japan! When we have the opportunity to speak with our loved ones, they need to know that we support them, that they are in our prayers continually and that we are proud of them.
USS GEORGE WASHINGTON MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR FUTURE TASKINGS
Yokosuka, Japan -The commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) is making preparations for any future tasking that are requested of the ship and her crew.
"This mighty warship is expeditiously working to be ready when called upon," said commanding officer, Captain David A. Lausman. "When an order is given, GW will be ready to respond."
"Even while the entire crew is focused upon expeditiously readying the ship for a potential tasking, our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors, friends and their families as they heroically deal with the tragic events caused by the earthquake and tsunami," added Lausman.
All leave has been cancelled for those in Yokosuka in order to make preparations.
Families of our crew are encouraged to fill out a NONCOMBATANT EVACUATION OPERATIONS packet in the event travel is ordered for military families by the Department of Defense. If travel is ordered, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) would spearhead efforts involving families of USS George Washington. This form can be found on the GW and
