Hi all. My son just started his first tour on the GW and to say it sound exciting is an understatement. He is a MM3 Nuke and we got a chance to talk to him Saturday morning. Sounds like he is getting use to the job. This will be our first Christmas without him, as last year he had a two week leave from School. We went down last January for his graduation and you would think that it would be warmer in Goose Creek then Rochester NY. Well, we froze our butts off because they held everything outside. Look forward to chatting with you all. If you have any advise for a first time father with a son in the military that would be appreciated.
Merry Christmas to all
Jim - What rate is your son? How long was he in A/C-School ?
My son is a YN2. He seems to like it so far. He wanted to travel and see the world, so he looks forward to the port visits. Only negative I've heard is the long lines in ships mess halls. I think he's getting the adventure he was looking for.
Mark, what rate is your son? How does he like life on a carrier? (I was a submarine sailor, don't think I would care for being around so many other sailors...)
JimG - glad you heard from your sailor, and that he arrived safely. This time last year my son too was living on the barge and going thru Indoc.
Merry Christmas to all the fellow G-Dub families! Our son, Aaron, arrived at Yokosuka yesterday and is processing through the Indoc program. It will be hard to have him away for Christmas (our first w/out him), but we are extremely proud of him for choosing to serve and excited for him as he begins his "real" Navy experience on the carrier.
Looking forward to getting to know those of you with sailors stationed on GW, and wishing safe travels to your sailors on their way home for Christmas!
happy holidays to the whole GUB family!
Now that the GW is in port, we're just waiting to hear if my son will be able to get leave and come home for the holidays. Fingers crossed.
