They can be crazy. We have had no trouble with Verizon and my sons phone.

Phone companies are the worst to deal with. Fortunately my sons cell phone was in our name. We were able to have his contract terminated early without penalty by providing a copy of his orders to AT&T.

I guess my son and I were lucky. His recruiter was straight up.

Cora, is that an active volcano in your pic? Nice pic.

Oh we have the power of attorney papers in the works its just waiting for it. I got my call last night about 10:00,.Alyssa said they had docked a few hours prior and they arrived 8AM GMT+9 from what she had said. I got the info on the return date to Atsugi as well. Kind of close to the same as what you had inferred just a bit sonner than that. So that alone just goes to show that you can never be even remotely sure when. Which I know, I am not trying to sound like someone new to the military. Ive been through this several times with myself and family just not as bad as with the Navy and these timelines that change so often and are months different that what they tell you. Our recruiter was the biggest liar I have ever met (which the majority obviously tell you what you want to know) but when I ask a question and show the guy I know how things work I expect him to answer me straight not lie right to my face. So yeah I know most of what youre saying, thanks though. I am just kind of ranting about how things are going. But my kid is loving the Navy life, so I cant complain all that much.

I am going to try Tmobile again and just ask them to suspend the phone, hopefully they will just look at the usage and agree.

There is a legal department onboard ship that will do up all legal papers with your sailor. That is how we got our son to do the paperwork. Unfortantly we had to contact the Ombudsman to get it done. We had a couple issues to come up inregards to our son and we had to have a power of attorney to handle them.

In regards to Verizon just call up and ask them to put the phone on Military hold.

I had to suspend my sons phone also, Dave. I had my lawyer draw up everything for power of attorney and sent it all to my son's GW mailing address. It took around 4 months but once he signed the papers and sent them back it was all good. They still get mail and care packages when at sea don't they?

I get email from my son every three or four days. I know it's hard, but I try not to worry about stuff I can't control. It seems that the only guarantee about what goes on in the Navy is that things change without notice.

My son told me to suspend his phone so if he had already talked to Verizon or not I don't know, but I know they will work with people in the military, and to be honest when I called them there wasn't a word said about having power of attorney, and he's been off my plan since he joined up.

I wish you luck with that stuff Dave. You might want to contact a Obudsman.

Yeah I have her email but with her working 12+ hours a day and and nightshift. She doesnt get to it too often.

Dave, do you have her e-mail address? I am sure there must be legal people on board who could help her accomplish getting the legal stuff done. You may try going through the Ombudsman to see if you can get word to her that she needs to try to get it done. It is costing her money.

Oh I know things change, I am just pointing that out to the people posting comments that seem to be taken as gospel. Nothing is ever set in stone, my daughter sat in Pensacola almost 2 months until she finally classed up for A school, another month sitting in Lemoore until C school started and both were "Supposed" to start the week she got there. The only thing is now this stuff in Japan turned out the other way, she "wasnt supposed to be deployed for a few months" but it happened quickly. We didnt get any legal stuff done, I have no power of attorney, I cant suspend her cell phone that she is now paying for and cant use. Navy Federal wont talk to me so I cant take care of financial things I need to. So I am holding on to the slim chance of them coming back ASAP.

Dave, when the GW left, my g'daughter indicated that it was a short trip out. Then a few days later, that was changed, much to her disappointment. I keep reminding her that the Navy has a way of doing that. Semper Gumby!

My brother was a pilot on the Midway many years ago and forward deployed to Japan, like our sailors are. One time they went out for 10 days and returned four months later.

Cora, you are right they do not get Internet on the ship but my g'daughter indicated that sometimes they can get access to WiFi when they are in port. So if they are in port soon and if they can find a WiFi cafe, then who knows. I certainly am not holding my breath.

Dave, what squadron is your daughter in? I know that my g'daughter has given me many different dates for her squadron to return for cross-training. Like you, I take it with a grain of salt. I'll believe it when she calls and says she is back at Whidby!
