All I can say is I take all news with a grain of salt. The last I heard from her she stated her squadron is returning to the US in the next couple of weeks and that was about 12 days ago.

As far as the movies, it would be cheaper all around by a few hundred bucks to just buy a Pro Duo card for the psp and just put movies on that and ship it.

Thank for the news. Last I talked to my daughter she said they were only going out for a week or so to test the catapults that were malfunctioning. Next thing I know I havent heard from her in around 2 weeks.

Cora, I also read an article put out by the Department of Defense that the GW would be in Busan, South Korea, for a few days. Maybe we will get some Skype chats! That would be fun.

Hello all. Haven't been here for a while, but I'm glad to see a group of people who have sailors on the GW. My son is 19 and a internal commmunications electrician. He says he loves being at sea!

If no one is familiar with Facebook, I really suggest that you join and log onto the GW's facebook page. It's loaded with pictures and all kinds of interesting stuff. They post the 'Sailor of the Day', and if yours gets picked you don't want to miss that. There is also a chance your sailor might be in one of the pics. The guys taking the pics are the mass communications guys and they take some really great pics.

Cora, I think you are right, the families in Japan have more info than families stateside. As I understand it, one reason that the Ombudsman was going to have informational sessions was that it could be done face to face and not via some "open" means of communication.

Now if those who have been informed are e-mailing and/or calling with the information, they are definitely putting our sailors at risk. These actions are WRONG. I think that the easiest thing will be not to give information to families in Japan any more than they give it to the rest of us. Obviously there are some who cannot be trusted.

Welcome, Maureen and David. Our oldest granddaughter is on her first deployment on the GW. She is finding adjusting to ship life a whole new experience.

3 days at sea and my son has already emailed us a list of things he forgot to pack and wants us to send him. So I too will be sending a care package shortly.
