My daughter just left with them for her first deployment as well. From what she said they were told they could possibly be back in a month and then head back out.

USS Shiloh just arrived back in Japan, I was talking with Garrett on his phone via Skype during the bus ride back to Atsugi. Don't know but I expect the GW is maybe coming in tomorrow.

Joe E, my granddaughter is also with VAQ-136. She is an aviation electronics technician. What does Suzanne do?

See the attached link regarding the GW and fleet. Cora, in the smaller pic that you can enlarge, is that Brooklyn 4th or so from the right clearing the deck? http://www.stripes.com/news/u-s-military-south-korea-to-conduct-nav...

Cora, I heard from Garrett who said he knew of Brooklyn's squadron called the Gauntlets, like his is HS-14 Chargers. However, he has not met her and said he will be leaving the GW to go to the Shiloh in the next couple of days so he doubts he will see her this time. At least he knows where she is and may meet her someday. I hope she finds people that will lift her up for her successes so far, and know that while they may be unhappy for there lack of progress, they are a united group to support each other. When I was over in Japan and met Garrett's squadron they were all very close and strongly supported each other, so I would bet Brooklyn's is the same. Our pastor last weekend had an awesome service on "letting go" which God has us prepare the gift God gave us, so they can be successful, but to build character, they need to go through difficulties so He can make them stronger. If we keep holding the bike for them, they never learn to balance. They will fall a couple of times, but learn something each time, and finally find "balance". God never give us more than we (or they) can handle. You have prepared her well. She will become stonger through this! We pray for our sailors to find comfort in knowing when they are doing their best, God smiles and protects them. God bless our sailors!

All you can Cora is to rely on the foundation you built raising her. Our kids come from tougher stock than we sometimes believe...I am confident that with your background you gave her a value set that includes hard work and sticking to things that you started. I am constaintly reminding Eric about doing what he has to--doing it safely--and doing it in an environmentally frinedly way (guess that is from my mining experience...). I'm sure you are doing the same....let her vent--give her the support she deserves and remind her that we are all proud of what she is doing and though times might be tough right now, it is a noble and honorable thing to step forward and serve.

hey Cora----hang tough. Eric is pretty bummed out as well about the advancement....scored in the 97 % and stays a third-class...it may have done him in as well.......

Cora, I'm sending you a pm on N4M (since we are friends there). My g'daughter is in the same squadron and I suspect she could also use a friend on the GW. They are working very hard right now.
