one more question, how do you sign up for the omsbudsman emails???
thanks for the info and advice. We have found skype to be fantastic thus far. In addition, if nothing else, I learned to text......something I avoided and vilified for the longest time. He and I do that every morning (my time).
As far as sending them packages to FPO yes it does get to them , but be prepared for some long delays in him receiving them at other times. Everyone uses skype to keep up with our sailors vidoe feeds and does not cost an arm and leg like phone calls. We send help our son with pre paid phone cards both in port and sailing.
Welcome, my son is also on the GW since last June. Your son is following the correct procedure from opspec, you will get this alot they are not allowed to disclose that type of info. one way is check GW facebook for when deployed. Also sign up for the omsbudsman e mails. Families are informed when allowed. Welcome to the GW group.
My son joined the GW in February. I have two questions which I hope someone can answer. First, is there anyway to know just when they will be putting out to sea? My son keeps saying he knows, but can't tell me.
Second question has to do with sending mail or packages to them. If it has an FPO address, does it follow them and eventually get delivered while they are out on deployment??
Welcome Michael. My son has been on the GW since Dec 2009. Hope your son enjoys his duty on the GW and life in Japan.
My son just joined the GW in mid Dec of 2011. he is a GM.
still waiting for him to send his address. lol
but have been able to e-mail and talk on the cell phone every once in a while.
Great news on both counts, Joe! Congratulations to you and your daughter!
My sailor was sure disappointed to have to leave Singapore early to travel to Thailand for disaster relief, but understood they had a mission that took precedence. Only to arrive in Thailand and find out the Thai Gov't did not want their help. How disappointing for all of the sailors on the GW.
