Thanks for the well wishes, all!  Aaron was able to fly home and spend almost two weeks with us as we held the Memorial Services for his Grandmother.  It has been rough for him, but we did get to enjoy his presence and he provided a great deal of support for his Mom.

Our son finally got on board after being on base since early July waiting for the GW. We also finally got a mail address for him and he has a section and division ABH and is excited to be with the group which two of his buddies from boot camp were also assigned to. have been quietly following this group and the Japan group great information from both on events and updates along with issues families face when a family member becomes ill.

Congrats Rich!
Sorry Jim... I hope your sailor is able to leave Sunday... my sailor was going home flying into NY on Sunday and that flight has been canceled. :(

   Hello

i talked on skype this morning with my son Eric. It was good to see him again. He informed me that on aug 16th he made sailor of the day. i just heard about gw's facebook page the other day so I looked back to the 16th and there he was with his big grin on his face. needless to say we are very proud of him. he always was a good worker around the house so it did'nt really surprize me. he was on tad while they were out and he is looking forward to getting back to his squadron (hs-14).

So sorry for your loss Jim. How long will he get to stay at home? With the big expense of flying home I sure hope he gets to stay awile.

Heard from Aaron last night.  We had a death in the family (his Grandmother) and he was approved for leave and will fly home Sunday.  Bittersweet: happy to see him, but not under these circumstances.  The really frustrating thing, for him, was the price of RT tickets to the states.  There are no longer any discounts for Bereavement, so he had to pay the whole thing.  Thankfully, the Navy Relief Society stepped in to help, and he will be able to pay them back over the next several months...

Just read on gw's facebook page that they are back in Japan. I thought they would be out there longer. I can't wait to hear from my son.

From the USS GW facebook page ..."All, If you are joining us for the Friends & Family Day Cruise, the deadline to register is August 20th and the deadline to pay is August 24. Please encourage your Sailors to submit their paperwork and pay for their tickets."
