Hi Celeste.  I don't envy your drive at all.  We're going to be in Norfolk the day before but I hadn't heard about a "party".  Of course, my daughter is part of the air wing so this may an event that's been scheduled through the ship's FRG... I'll do some more checking on this.

Based on the forecast for the next few days, you should be able to see all the snow you want on the drive up...

We have a 17 hour drive from Louisiana--yuck but we wouldn't miss it for anything.  Hope to meet some of you there.  My name is Celeste Patin (not my sailor's last name) and will be at the day before "party".

We are so excited and if it snows it will be an extra "treat" for us.

Oh yeah!!  Will be there for sure!  We'll have an 8 hour drive ourselves but it'll be worth it.  The long range forecast says mid 40's with a chance of snow.  Not too bad considering the weather tonight...

Yes. Looking forward to it.  Have a "nice" 10 hour drive from WNY ahead of us. Hope it is warmer in VA than it is here.

Any "Navy Dads" going to the Truman homecoming?

Comment by Otto Mueller on October 13, 2010 at 3:38pm
James, the day of the arrival is usually no problem getting on base. There is a predetermined procedure used by base personnel. You don't need a passport, but do be sure to have a valid drivers license, a copy of your current auto insurance and current state vehicle registration in the event you need it. To receive a temporary pass lasting longer than the observed homecoming period you will need those items. In the event you are asked to "pull over" for a detailed inspection at the main gate, be mindful what you are carrying in your vehicle. If you went to PIR, this is similar to that, though not as intense. Just remember to arrive as early as allowed and be prepared. Remember, there are over 5,000 personnel on the ship, and a great many of them will have family and friends attending homecoming. Enjoy, it is another unique Navy experience.

My son finally got me into FRG last week as well! Sent him a care package (bday present) over a month ago ... still have not heard that it arrived.
