There are a bunch of old posts about things to send in the Care Packages group.....I don't have the link handy, but if you click GROUPS at the top of the pag, on the left you'll see a search box....enter Care Packages and hit return and you'll get a listing of everything that has that prhase in the group....there are a ton, but look at the headings as that tells you what group it is in

Mitch -

I love sending our son stuff. He recently got a 15lb box that was 1/2 pound of box and tape, 10 pounds of chewing gum and 4 pounds of sports magazines. We've previously sent him carnival taffy that arrived in a nasty mess along with Grandma's brownies that he said he shared with his shop as they were still moist and good. We've kept his address close to vest as we don't want him overwhelmed with "junk" he cannot store easily. Too many aunts and friends have wanted to send him things that cannot be used immediately and would take up space. I know he communicates with his HS friends and they may send him unsolicited junk but it won't come from our end of the operation. They have a nice store full of junk food and drinks on board so don't waste time or money sending things like that. A little group of photos of family or a missed pet that he could place in his bunk area is a good start. Make it an total family experience in figuring out what goes in the box, some of the younger kids have the bet ideas. I have a box that is 3/4 full and we'll soon figure out what other "treats" to surprise him with.

We actually got a phonecall today! We have his address now. Does anyone have any suggestions on care package items? Our family, church, coworkers, and others are all eager to send something! And, are there any security restrictions on giving out his address?

Son is now onboard HST. We have heard from him a few times. Excited to get the 411 on the HST.

Hello HST group. Don't know if you are aware of a project I started last year where we send gifts to a deployed ship. Last year we sent more than 6500 Christmas stockings and holiday goody bags to the USS Nimitz Strike group. This year we have chosen the USS Truman. If anyone here would like to participate please contact me @ navymom0725@aol.com. I have a Holiday project group on Facebook and Navy for Mom's.

Nice pic Bob. I was standing over to the left just out of frame. It was a great experience and I too am looking forward to the return.

Mitch, Congrats on your son reaching the HST. I attached a photo that might interest you. I was blessed to be able to be there when the HST left for this deployment. The sailors are proudly manning the rail as the HST clears the pier on 21 May, 2010. This is your son's new place of service. I glance at this image occasionally and it gives me the feeling of being a little closer to my daughter. I'm looking forward to seeing them man the rail as they come back in to port...it's an awesome experience.

Good for you, I'm glad. He couldn't have got a better ship. He's in the fleet now and what he signed up for is happening.

We heard from him! Got a chance to talk via computer for quite some time!

He was there yesterday. He should be on the ship now. The last flight was 16 hours. Thanks for the info.
